Good match up from two of my favorite r and b and funk bands I would've also gone with the Commodores as well for this match up I'm going for the spinners they have so many great songs and so does Earth wind and fire

I considered doing EWF vs Commodores but realized it was no contest. EWF would've crushed the Commodores

It was looking like my score on your matchups would be the mirror opposite until “September” scored one for EWF. “How Could I Let You Get Away” in contrast is my second favorite of the Spinners tracks, (“One Of A Kind Love Affair” being my all time favorite.). -Don’t get me wrong, I love Earth Wind & Fire, but “Can’t Hide Love”, and “That’s The Way Of The World were the only others to score for EWF - and those were absolutely excruciating choices to decide on. -I just really love all that seventies Philly Soul stuff, The Spinners and The Stylistics in particular have always been among my favorite 70’s AM Top Forty artists. So final score for me is, Spinners 7 Earth Wind & Fire 3.. great video Paul!

Thanks! Yeah, there are some soul crushing choices in these match ups. Just deciding how to rank those top three Spinners tracks was extremely difficult

Soul is some of the best music ever! 60s and especially 70s soul is the golden age for me too! It would be so hard to choose between Earth, Wind & Fire and The Spinners tho, especially since EW&F’s September is just one of the best and most joyful songs ever written! 🖤

Yeah, definitely! EWF is pretty tough to beat but I've just always had a particular place in my heart for those Spinners singles at the top. EWF vs Commodores seems like a better stylistic match up but I think EWF would devour them

it's hard to beat Earth Wind and Fire for the output in the 70s and 80s. Reasons has a beautiful fade out. they were not only on the radio they also had great TV appearances and a short bit in Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie! their concert bit is one of the high points of the film. I like Donald Pleasance singing I Want you with Dianne Steinberg (the Bee Gees sing the refrain and Frampton does a good job on the guitar solo), and Aerosmith had Come Together on the radio. George Burns sings Fixing a hole which is charming- he reminds me of my bygone relatives and how classy they were. I'm not as into Steve Martin singing Maxwell's Silver Hammer- would rather have him sing the "Be a Dentist" song from Little shop of Horrors which is one of the high points of the movie.

The Sgt Pepper film was of course terrible, but I was 8 when it came out and I loved it.

Ridiculous that Atlantic couldn't pony up the cash to Motown to include The Spinners' 'It's A Shame', my favorite song by them and one of their very best. That always really bugged me about that album.

Yeah, it does suck that "It's a Shame" seems to exist on some other planet, as though its an entire different group. That song would've ranked VERY high if it were there. Top 5 easily.
