I actually like the stock on my 88, Im gonna keep it. My 870 tho....was a Police gun. Its been rode hard and put up wet too many times, I need a Magpul set for it.

I just cut the stock on mine back 1 inch. 14 3/4 inches is a bit long for a length of pull for a lot of folks.

Very nice!!! I've been toying with the idea of replacing my AR that i lost in a boating accident with a shotgun and haven't been able to decide if i should go with a maverick 88 or just save up the extra coplue hundred bucks for the 500, and these videos have me leaning more towards the 88 because you've pretty much dispelled every concern i had about the 88 so it just seems like a no brainer to be honest.

I own 2 88s one long gun and the one I built. I have videos on the 88 used for turkey hunting and what a pattern it throws. I've owned 500s 835s and of course the 88 Mosberg being my favorite shotgun. There's very little difference in 500 and 88 and just about everything that works on 500 or 500 uses the 88 will match up with. And to this date I've never had a problem outta the 88 its definitely a work horse that eat any round u put through it

I know this post is 9 months old so I bet you have made your purchase. But I'd say the 500 has slightly better aftermarket, as there are parts that are for the 500 series excluding the 88's, but the big difference in USABILITY between the two is: do you like the tang-mounted safety on the 500? It is a significant difference to the cross bolt on the 88 and may even justify looking at Remington or others if that tang safety is a serious enough problem. 88: slightly less aftermarket support (especially for fire control components which is really what counts) 500: slightly more expensive (meh) but the safety position is loath some to some people.

The safety location never has been or caused an issue with me on shotguns. Or hampered getting a shot off hunting or target shooting. I've owned 500s 88s to 835 turkey guns and love them all. Between 500s and 88s very little differents when it comes to parts/style. But forends, barrels butt stocks all matches up . They both are excellent shotguns and get the job done. And the 88 may cost less but is an excellent gun for home defense to hunting and never had 1 issue with them from mechanical to patterns. Same as the Remington wingmaster and the express ones lower end but from experience hands on with the 2. The express excellent boom stick as the 88. All in all it's what the person wants and wants to pay. But if one wants a dependable good shooter that get the job done. And don't wont to spend the $$$ a Express or 88 excellent choice used or new.

Yes - it has spacers in the stock that can be removed/added to adjust length of pull

Sorry for late reply that I don't really know but I do know it comes with spacers to make the stock longer for hunting or shorter for home defense quick swing. Hope that helps

What do you think? How's the recoil reduction? Is it worth spending 105$? (Amazon price) I just picked up a Maverick 88 20" Security version and the stock seems pretty hollow and not honed for recoil absorption.

Its $180 shotgun. A budget gun. I personally would pimp out my $700 590 a1 cuz its not a cheap gun, but in my opinion buying the cheapest and best pump gun on the planet for the price is awesome for the fact that its super cheap and works great out of the box just fine. If you add a $110 forend and all these gadgets, yea its cool but now you have a $600 maverick when you couldve just bought a 500 of 590a1 that is already customized to your liking right out of the box for the same price, and the 500 and 590 have better quality parts to begin with.

I have one 88 from the 90s the bluing almost gone that has had more lead put through than I care to say.. One I picked up few yrs back for turkey and videos showing what a pattern it throws 30+yards with 3"mags I've owned 500s, 88s , and 835s and never had a problem out of any of the mossberg family of Shotguns. And this 18.5 - 88 Security has had everything from #00buck, slugs and tons of low brass slung through it and has and will always go boom and hit what I'm aiming at. Shotguns have always been my #1 go to gun for over 30yrs. And why pay for a 590 when I have guns I trust and the 88 is a Mossberg that has proven its self time and time again for yrs for me . Plus I built this project for the style I wanted from the magpul down to the dot and rail that fit my needs and wants plus can sling my slug barrel on 2x scope and a great deer slugger. Just like my Lews spinning and baitcaster reels I give $30/$60 for instead of the Lews $100+ reels that's out there and they last me for yrs just because it cost more or has few more bells doesn't mean it's the best but what you like and used and trust. price model means nothing to me but reliability of something I know and trust and the 88 for the price can not be beat a true work horse.

No. Definitely have to loosen it, thankfully not fully remove it.

Sorry for late reply Magpul Stock is about 11.5 '' without spacers and the regular Stock is right at 13'' if that helps

Just wondering, you know you can use both ends of an allen wrench, right? Because if not, using the longer side probably would have made it MUCH easier to tighten that nut.

The angle of the Magpul Stock Handle prevents you from using an Allen Wrench the long way
