Trackers Are Some Of The Most Hated (And Powerful) People In Politics (HBO)

Sometimes a politician says something so racist, sexist, or otherwise terrible that it could (or should) ruin their career.
But somebody’s got to be there to get it on tape - and that’s a pretty tough gig.
Zach Wurtz has been working as a political “tracker” in Washington State for almost a decade. Most of his work involves driving for hours to tape local politicians giving speeches. Sometimes these are massive ballroom events with rich Republican donors, other times they’re tiny gatherings in community centers.
If his “target” shows up to give a speech in public, Zach shows up too, camera in hand - ready to capture every word and send it back to his (usually Democratic) client.
He’s a bit like a spy, except he’s so famous in Washington political circles that everybody knows who he is - and tries to kick him out of their events.
VICE News rode along with Zach to find out what life as one of the most-hated people in politics is really like.

Of course trackers would hope something juicy happens, but that is a very small, occasional, and accidental part of the job. It doesn't define what a tracker does and plays into the stereotype that people have about what trackers actually do 99.999% of the time. To put it in the description indicates this sentence describes what the video is about, but in reality, the video focuses on the day to day job of a tracker, and involves zero "controversial racist/terrible stuff that it could ruin their career".

It's an issue, I've just recently noticed it. Hair that is seen as professional is based around western haircuts in most countries. It, like most of western culture, is based of Caucasian traits. This is part of the reason why it is so common for black women to straighten their hair and men to have little to none. This can involve chemicals or damage to the hair to achieve. I wish it weren't true, hopefully it will change. There are a lot of cool, professional stylings for curlier hair. I mean his may be a bit of shock because the sheer size but a flat top (is this correct? Looks like a flat top mixed with an afro or an extendo-flat-top lol) isn't unprofessional to me. Please correct me if I'm wrong or chime in. This is what I've noticed and read. Ignorance is hard to overcome. I mean it's the most natural thing. You are born ignorant to everything until you are taught or see. Its a shame but I am still ignorant to much of my fellow neighbors cultures.

This just makes a lot of sense if you want to difference your own campaign from your opponent. Otherwise you're in the dark about how to have any competitive advantage beyond how many friends a politician has and their existing reputation. I like the trackers. They seem like really measured and sensible. I like Zach. Be like Zach.

If you are a Tracker aren't you supposed to be incognito? And once you're discovered don't you become irrelevant because the message will get tailored because they know a trackers in the building so whatever messages being put out is irrelevant. Especially when the track is more famous than the politician

God damn it Macacca!!! Lol, gotta love the way Allen pronounces the name of good ole boy, Macacca! Why do they hate on these trackers so much? Is it that hard to just say what you believe and broadcast what you stand for? Nobody would have a problem with trackers if these scumbag politicians were not constantly talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Forget trackers, everyone knows the people with the best dirt are hotel staff at these closed door political events. Remember the Romney 48% tape? A tape like that would end campaigns back in 2012, but sadly today in the era of Trump outlandish absurdities, it’s relatively tame.

JB Pritzker in Illinois had a full time tracker assigned to follow Daniel Biss. I spoke to him at a few campaign events, he was a very nice guy but I do have to say I hate the concept of trackers. Especially during primaries like Pritzker's, they're a weapon affordable only to big money candidates and used against insurgent/grassroots candidates. A lot of campaigns can hardly afford field operations.
