TrackIR | Head Tracking Settings for War Thunder

Ok, dumb question, I've seen in the comments you don't use VR. How do you still look at your screen if you have to move your head around to see things? Looking at my 6, would mean staring at the wall be hide me. Or do you just ramp up the sensitivity, so you only move you head slightly to the left, and the screen looks far left? My biggest down fall is not being able to see other planes in sim, or keeping eyes on them, when turning.

TrackIR works by recognizing how your head is angled relative to a infrared camera which is placed on your screen. When you turn your head it exaggerates the movement. So that turning your head for example 30 degrees will move your camera in game 180 degrees. And by turning your head only 30 degrees, you'll still be able to see your screen which shows your 6 o'clock. I hope that description made sense:)

ty for this video. Just a question. Im just getting into sim and im going to acquire a flight stick ( the x56 logitech ). Do you need pedals to control the rudder? Or is this something that the game does if it detects that you dont have pedals. Also what TrackIR do you use. Thanks!

Hey man, I used the x56 in this video. Actually the old version called x55 but it has the same functions. Worked very well for me! The rudder is controlled with the twist axis of the joystick. I use a TrackIR5. I must say that I think that the head tracker is extremely useful if you decide to buy a HOTAS. For a more immersive experience. I hope I managed to help you out. Good luck to you!

Do you have to press a button to enable the looking around or is it just always active, also. Are you able to bind it so you can move forward and backward in the cockpit?

No keybind is needed. Forward and backward movement is enabled as a default and also does not require a keybind. However, I use the normal zoom button a lot when I want to see something far away without having to move so much 😅

Hey, just recently got myself the TrackIR and stumbled upon your videos. I don't like the Default setting of it, can you provide me a link to download your TrackIR presets? or is that not possible? I know I can just copy your settings, and when I tried it.. let's just say.. it doesn't seem like I copied it very well...

Could you also make video how you setup your joystick? I tried War Thunder with Joystick but in Arcade mode, Mouse Aim was just much better option.

Yeah, mouse is gonna be better in arcane and realistic. But if you play sim the mouse aim work differently making joystick controls competitive. Highly recommend trying sim battles :) if you do, remember to have patience. In time everything will fall into place and you'll be an ace

So do you see your Cockpit in VR or do you still look on the screen? Why couldnt you use the c button instead. Sorry i am a bit confused

TrackIR is not the same as VR. You don't wear googles. Think of it as your head movements control the C-key which lets you look around the cockpit. It works by having a infrared camera on your monitor, like a webcam. On your headset you wear an item with a reflective surface. The camera then recognises how your head is positioned. And instead of having to hold down a button you can just turn your head a bit to look around.

how do you set a button for zooming in? i have it set as one of my joystick buttons but it doesnt seem to work for some reason

I think you find the key-bind in common, camera zoom if I remember correctly. I remember I didn't get the zoom to work as an axis. I only have it set to either maximum zoom or no zoom. Maybe you are using a slider or something that is recognised as an axis.

I keep having an issue where the targeting pod follows my head sense it counts as the mouse making it extremely difficult to lock targets. Do you have a fix for this?

I will get VR later on. Bought my TrackIR years ago and it works really well. When VR is cheaper/better I will go for it!

Honestly the vr you can get for the trackIR price is a really shit vr headset, atleast 500 euro for a good vr is needed.. ive bought myself tobii 5 recently and i am in love with it, takes some setting up for it to work properly as the default way the tobii recommends is only two axis (x and y)
