I think it really adds to the content. It basically allows us to see what you're looking at without you doing the GoPro thing. I also like that I can see when/under what circumstances you're checking your mirrors. It's a subtle way of picking up on the driving habits of others, but it's useful to me, as a pretty novice racer (if that makes sense)

Nice racing Dave. I'm enjoying TRACK IR with the trucking as it is so much better than having the 2 virtual mirrors on screen. I can't get it to work in iRacing for some reason as it just wants to look down and left all the time. I don't mind the slight movenment on the screen but it may not be to everyones liking. Another great vid Dave. My PC is lower spec with a 1660 super and I5 10400F I have always raced on a single screen. With my PC I am able to run Iracing on a single screen with almost maxed out settings excepting I use virtual mirrors and have all other mirrors off. I tend to hover in the 2.7 to 3.1 k Irating range after 2 years, which is decent, but I think I can exceed that. Over the last year I have come to the conclusion that for me to progress I will need to be able to have better spatial awareness. Too many times I am involved in incidents that whether my fault or the other driver, could have been avoided if I could just see the relationship of my car to theirs. Space in my home is very limited. In fact I’m lucky to have a wife so understanding that she allows space for my rig at all, so triples or ultrawides are a no go. My options are VR or IR head track. I opted for VR and purchased a 2nd hand Rift S. It took many hours to find settings that at least offer a decent experience, but I did finally get it to a level that I am enjoying. The VR experience is incredible. My PC can only run it barely. The visual clarity of the monitor is superior. The immersion of VR is superior. Really looking forward to your conclusions on IR head tracking. Could I have the best of both worlds without shelling out near 2k$ for a PC that will run VR to my expectations? Look forward to your conclusions vid. Thanks mate for all you do for the Sim Racing community.

I've been using Track IR , mostly in flight sims, since the first version and I like it for those sims. . I used to use it in iRacing but did not set it up when I returned to iRacing a couple of years ago. Daves Nurburgring video inspired me to dig out the Track IR 5 and retry it. I found that it works best (for me!) if only the yaw and pitch axis were enabled with pretty low curves and a small deadzone on center just to keep it from being too jittery. It does add an element of immersion particularly spotting apex but I have 2 main objections to it when used in iRacing. One is the personal preference of not liking wearing a hat (too sweaty). The other bigger issue is that Track IR is a head tracker rather than an eye tracker. Normally when driving in real life all I need to check my review mirror is a glance rather than a head turn as seen in Dave video above. I will keep using the virtual mirror because of that though I'll give the Track IR a longer trial.

I gave my old trackIR a try about a month ago on iracing, but couldn't wrap my head around how to set it just right, and gave up. Initially, it felt a bit faster and more natural to drive with, but my issue was, I couldn't get a proper setting that allowed consistent centering, and at the dominant hours I played, the sun made things difficult. With that said, I'm all ears now, and looking forward to your settings. I'll definitely give it another shot ! As for the viewer experience, I definitely do think it adds to it - seeing corner apexes/exits is better for the viewers IMO Dave. I recently picked up a 42" Oled as my sim rig display and it's nice to be able to use it more effectively as TrackIR is very reliable so far. I might not use if for iRacing where VR is pretty smooth for me but rFactor2 which I've been getting back into really is poor in VR but quite gorgeous on the Oled so I prefer the monitor. Don't have room for triple screen really and always preferred the 4k so the Oled + TrackIR is a great combo.

While Track-IR works great for me in flight sims, something feels really off in iRacing. Glancing left/right is fine but when the head position moves back to the centre, I feel disoriented. I don't usually comment much on your videos. I started watching them a couple years ago when I got into iRacing, for the GT3 track guides. Personally I'm a VR racer. I race exclusively in VR, and can't stomach pancake racing. Whether it be triple screen or not, VR destroys it in terms of realism. If you have a good, high resolution headset(like the HP Reverb G2), the picture quality is almost the same. Track IR seems to help the pancakes in this area, but it still can't compete with VR, so I definitely won't be using it.
