Adding springs on my Sim Rig - So great, why no one does it???

$60 for a spring is a horrible rip-off. vibration isolators of similar strength (used for air conditioners and big fans) cost a few bucks per piece, so you're looking at no more than $20-30 for a set of 4

I also think it's expensive, but for lack of better option, that's the only one I found on the "internet". If you happen to know a place that sells such item, please help the community by providing such info..! (so more ppl can afford to do it). Thanks!

Put something like "spring vibration mount isolator hvac" (in different combinations) in a web search and see what comes up.

You'll probably be more lucky looking in your local/your country's stores. Search for vibration isolator or spring mount or any other combination of these words, can also add hvac because that's where they are often used. Also take a look at what load they are designed for so you don't end up with too stiff ones.

I've a springloaded rig since years to isolate the Buttkickers from neighbors. I've bought the pressure-springs for about 4 bucks each at a spring-factory in Germany and 3D-printed two cups for each. One is attached to the aluminium-profile, one on the ground and the spring is just squeezed in between. Very simple and cheap solution. The springs (length 50 mm, width 40 mm, strength 55 N/mm) are quite stiff and doesn't need further stabilizers.

May I ask you, where you purchased the springs (and which ones exactly) and how much weight they carry (rig including driver) approximately? Do you use 4 identical springs? The front springs will have to carry less weight I think.

@@BD992013 I use D-355 from Gutekunst Federn and 6 is more than enough. Just put the two between around the center of mass. I also bought stiffer springs, but they are too stiff IMO.

I'm looking into this and I got a similar price from a different manufacturer. They show adjustment to adjust the springs pretty tight for maximum vibration containment. Their shop is called fixing smith. I'm early days I'm my research but it might be worth looking into tightening the springs. Nice setup btw

I built a totaly enclosed rig many years ago(Gran T. on PS1) Was really cool for that time. Even had a vibration-unit(Intensor) behind the seat. I almost suspended the seat with springs but didn't. I guess I should have.

For those looking for a even cheaper option! I got my sim rig on a plywood sheet with 4 of those air wedges under the corners, cost..€10!

which aura bass shaker do you use? i have 4 sinutec bs 250 shakers with fosi audio zk1002d mini amplifier. Are they strong enough for the movement??

I use two AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer for the back, and one Buttkicker for the front. I'd say that it's enough to make it shake up to my taste. I think you have enough shakers to do the job, but might lack a bit on the amplifier side. But as any DIY project, worst case, you buy another one to improve the thing. Good luck!

i now have my rig on springs and its made such a difference to the experience so thank you so much. i had a long winded idea to do with springs and a diy arduino motor for motion. i wanted to know your thoughts on the idea. if you had more spacings in the springs and you incorporated a motor to pull one end of the rig down , even if its just 10mm to give the sensation of the front of the car lifting up as you accelerate? i use vr and probably to slightest movement will feel a lot move when your in vr. i was litarally thinking of a pully on a sub frame. do you think its worth a try as i already have half to parts i would need

I thought about it, but then you need to find the motor, and then to link it somehow to your PC, and send inputs... That's way over my skill level. But I know it can be done.

Hi, i have question. If i use 4 of Dayton BST 300watt version, can i use 2 of 300w×2 channel amplifiers or do i have to use 1 amplifier that has 300w by 4 channel. Im not sure if 2 amplifiers can be use for this tactile racing setup.

You can use 2 amplifiers, simply split your output into each amp. You could also use two different sound cards, by doing so, you would be able to set up your software for each of your corners (front left/right, rear left/right).

I made mine quite narrow so it does move around a lot, mostly when my wheels gives me some force feedback quick responses... But then again, I like it that way. Making the base wider would make it a lot more stable.

No, the springs came with the mounts. They are made out of rubber.

Yes, the comments are off because I do VR and I can't see them, it's a VR limitation (open XR). Hope it get fixed sometime soon.

Please remember that you have 4 springs to take the load of your rigs, so math will tell you that if your rig weight let's say 400lbs, and you about 200, that's 600 total, divided by 4, makes it 150 lbs on each springs. Give or take, since the weight distribution is not even, the back will be most of you and front mostly your feet and monitors (if connected to).

From my point of view, adding springs would work on any sim rig, they simply add that "spring" feeling into it. Now the thing is to choose the right strength for the weight of your rig (and yourself ;) Too tight, you won't feel a thing (won't bounce), too loose and it simply will be crushed by the weight...

Are you using a headset for audio and the buttkicker for effects? If do how sre you doing that?

Exactly. I have a USB sound card dongle that is connected to my LFE system and my headset use my PC sound card. In iRacing, in the LFE section, you simply select the name of the sound card dongle and voilà! The game sound will go out to your headset, and LFE will go to your LFE amp. You can do the same if you use simHub or any other LFE software.

As any DIY project, you can set it up to your taste. I did mine quite narrow, this makes it really wobbly. But by making the base wider, you will have a lot more stability. Good luck!
