I've played with keys from the start, also tried pad, pad can be worse sometimes and keys can be worse sometimes, it's a matter of skill, overall smoothness = pad but is best used on fs. keys are great for tech as you can switch direction alot faster.

On stadium evironment there's almost no difference, but for instance on island or rally there are tracks where without gp your car goes into sliding instantly when you press the button so wr is impossible without that there. @contytub You don't change directions faster with kb. There is a time interval while the wheel changing directions, the kb can't make it faster! (check it out, stand still press right, then press left and watch the front wheels)

and reason i think KB work good for tech is because theres very little time when you dont need full lock. With the FS tracks there is alot more smoothness needed. But KB is alot mor precise i think, not so easy to correct small errors of line like pad can.

Gamepad is a huge, huge advantage for the people using it. In Trackmania 2 the difference is insane, a kb player cannot possible compete against anyone with a pad. Perfect kb round, and you'll get beaten with at least 2-5 seconds in a normal 40-50 sec race. I really wish there was separated servers: for pad players and for kb players. I have to drive insanely good to beat padders, while they make screwups and get the same time...

@contytub A good track does not consist of only maximum turns. Those who use keyboard on slower turns tend to lose a small amount of speed due to the jiggery nature of using a keyboard. And the folly of saying that you can't have instant right with an analogue stick... do you actually believe that the speed at which you can go from centre to full right on a 360 stick is noticeably longer than the time it takes for your finger to press a directional button?

i have problem with brake on gamepad... my brake on game pad is R2 so when i give brake the car slowly to 0 -.- what is the problem?!

I got a much better result with pad. And for "contytub": you can do the same instant switch but you just have to learn when to do it. Pad is more effective in Speed tracks since you can make MUCH smoother turns (i guess you can do it in tech too, but it's not often you have the opportunity) which can give you NOT MUCH, but a little better result.

A pad makes it possible to adjust the direction better while sliding. Ie, if I see I'm going too close to a wall, I might just change the direction a little with the stick, while with a keyboard I'd have to release and re-tap the directional key. That makes the difference in my opinion.

@geoffreyefloyd It's all personal opinion. I used to play with a Keyboard and i switched to a gamepad to try it and never went back. But I know many players that don't like using gamepad, some of the worlds best still use a keyboard :) Just whichever you feel is easier!

Been playing since 2007/2008 always used keybord. with secondary brake on "Z". Dicided to dust of my old Logitec controller. It sometimes made me a seccond faster.. But dont forget 1 second is alot in track mania. Also i can make smoother turns, + A little tip for the maker of this video. Try to adjust ur sensativity, I found a gamepad/controller responding just a bit later then keybord. becouse you make smooth moves ments. A keybord realy is just On/off. So u cant make such smoooth turns

For Stadium you don't need a gamepad, but try some Island Tracks with Keyboard its nearly impossible...

Why do you use also w to brake? I play TM for 6 years on keyboard, and I have never use an other key than the down arrow key, with the middle of my middle finger, as the top of it is on the up arrow.

I'm using the Logitech Rumblepad 2. Whenever I drift, I do accelerate, steer, brake/hold down brake, let go of brake, and continue accelerating & steering. Whenever I let go of brake while steering, my car slows down, then I have to let go of acceleration, then accelerate back again to continue. Could you help me out?

I prefer keyboard cause Im used to use it. Your rounds with gamepad looks much more smooth and it could be said in general I think. But it looks it has no impact on time.

With the sensitivty settings you had they seemed quite low, and i noticed in that tech replay at teh start the keyboard just seemed to be edging ahead with quicker direction change. My sensitivity is at 1.5 and from one extreme of full lock to the other feels about the same speed as keys. But this is on Xbox pad. still nice video very interesting

In theory, keyboard is the most optimal solution to maintain best racing lines. All you really need is full turn left and right, with no adjustements. But since we are not robots, its often nice to have adjustments to save a failing turn or saving a late powerslide etc.

@anonymous345 maybe thats the key then. If Xbox is more sensitive and i use higher sensitivity the direction change is really quick compared. Maybe you could do a vid of high sensitity vs low??? would be really interesting

@anonymous345 this is very true what this video does'nt show is the aspect of "power sliding" and how you can control how much you turn personally on an average 45sec track i improve by 1sec with gamepad also the gamepad is much easier to drive const beacuse you can slide and steer in muilt direction which the keyboard dose'nt - i have been driving tm for almost 4 years now and have tryed 4 methods of gaming and i would say that the gamepad is best

Keyboard is best! I play racing games on my computer und on my PS2. And I have to say, that it is more fun und easier to work with the keyboard. But nice vid! You're a really good driver!

you can't play pro track mania just with the analog sticks ... i can say this couse a few years ago i was one of the fastest on the game . you can't have instant left to right or right to left steerring becouse the time that is needed for moving the stick from one point to another.i know is a short time but there are tracks that require this instant switch.it is alot faster with a keyboard (i use the word instant just to say that is alot faster .. i know that is not instant).eng not my native lg

Your trackmania ambidextrous! haha. might i suggest a new wired Xbox360 controller as a gamepad or the wireless then get the wireless PC hub. Gotta be careful though. The sticks can get off center by a good amount and make percision a bitch :D

your just talking crap mate.... Ive seen the fastest in the game and they are pad converts from KB... there are a few really good keyboard players as with anything its all about feel. You cant apply FPS PAD vs KB philosphy in to a racing game. You can set it so pad turns just as fast as kb This is also before you even consider the extra body roll from tappy tappy kb playing
