Watch my thorough review of this new release, the good and bad will all be revealed and then take a ride with the onboard camera.
Hey Guys and Gals this Trackmaster Talking Edward arrived today and I was excited to share it with you all and see it for myself. It arrived without batteries so I opened it before filming and inserted the 3xAAA batteries in the tender and resealed it.
The first thing that you notice on this Talking Edward is the massively long tender it almost looks too big with little Edward and the size of the tender causes problems I will discuss further on. The loco lacks any real detailing like stripes or handrails that are painted which is disappointing on a premium locomotive like this. This Edward has the latest animated version face. The shell seems to be recycled from the regular 2012 Edward except for a couple of minor differences (the cab roof switch and the talking button), the shell still features the tab to hold it down at the rear of the cab that the regular version has.
The talking is rather good as is the chuffing sound which is constant when his wheels are on the rails, he says several phrases that I have even subtitled for you in the video.
The performance of this locomotive is slow but he can pull a very decent load even up the steep Knapford hill. 6 express coaches are no problem for this Edward and he never stalled pulling this load, proving to be a really useful engine after all. The motor is on the noisy side but not unbearable and his sound speaker can clearly be heard on the other side of the room. Turntable testing was a complete failure and I can't understand why they can't make these engines work on the turntable, Tomy did it just fine! as you will see in my upcoming "Talk n Action" James video. The premium locomotives should work with the premium set, this motorized turntable set is still sought after and not a 6 month fad like the movie tie in sets of late. I hate to see how this locomotive would perform on something like the Sodor castle set as it can not free roll.
Anyway a decent engine and the running makes up for average looks and the sound is great!
I give this Trackmaster Talking Edward a 7.5/10
its ok but Fisher Price could have made it so much better! little details like paint can make all the difference and you have to learn adults can and do affect the buying choices of their children so you need to give better value on a premium item such as this.
Thanks for watching!
