Trackmaster Talking Toby 2013 Unboxing review and first run

Hi Guys and Gals our Thomas and friends streak continues with Talking Toby from Trackmaster, this is a 2013 release from around 6 months ago and I finally decided to get one. I got it on ebay for around $32 including delivery which is cheaper than stores here for Talking engines! I have never seen it for sale in this country though.
So This Talking Toby appears to be molded on the latest trackmaster flat drive version which I feel is rather plain and boring. They could have used the lovely flip face Toby mold and I would have bought several! Anyway it looks like Toby and has the animated face, his wheels have holes for packaging sticks and side rods *facepalm*. The Giant red truck he hauls is rather distracting and out of place although I can see why they went with red for a brown locomotive like Toby to brighten it up for the main customers (children of course).
When you push the button he says one of several phrases and/or rings his bell, when he is moving he makes a nice chuffing sound that can be heard from the other side of the room. His voice although clear kind of reminds me of mickey mouse although it could be just through the small cheap speaker. There is a wheel sensor on the rear wheels of the red truck and when lifted from the rails causes Toby to shut off for safety reasons and let out a hiss of steam sound like a brake is applied. Its interesting to compare this too the earlier TOMY Talk n Action engines who used a special track piece to perform fun and interesting actions, These new Trackmaster talking engines are far less exciting. Plarail has a new line of Talking engines that are already hitting ebay so keep an eye out as I will be!
So Toby rides and runs very well on all parts of the track and did not derail once. His hill climb performance was excellent have good power and traction. Turntable performance was non existent as Trackmaster talking Toby was too long to fit on the turntable which i know will be disappointing to many who have a turntable set. They could have improved the design to make it work but they did not.
So overall a capable locomotive but with sloppy and lazy design seemingly pulled from the parts bin to fill a gap in the talking range and a cheap cost to produce. The latest mold for Toby should not have been used when there is a lovely flip face version that looks far far superior than any other Toby released thus far. I give this Talking Toby from Trackmaster a 7/10. lovely running and sound can't save a very ugly version of Toby. YUCK!

Great! Toby sounds very funny to me! Makes me laugh and jingly! There is also a new Talking Edward. And i hope you get talking James, Henry, Thomas, Victor's Big Splash and Spencer in future. Hopefully Fisher-Price makes a Talking Emily to complete the Talking Steam Team.

I give it 3 out of 5. It should have Henrietta and it should work on the turntable. But all and all a good engine however im not a big fan of yhe tslking engines. And I wondet if they will redesign the talking ones like they did with the RC engine how everything is in the one engine instead of struck following behind. Great video mate

Nice as always! The wooden railway has a Talking toby to, it looks nice, and the front lamp lights up, I might get it, I an Especially grateful that a pointless ugly nondetachable car is included. I also hear that there is A Battery Powered Toby Coming out, the prototype resembles the Trackmaster toby and has a light purple-ish color, I hope the final product isn't that color :^7

4 days ago, September 30, 2024 i purchased this talking toby off of ebay. Sadly, it didn't ship to where i live in mexico, and it would cost more money to ship it here. So it's going to texas at ny aunts house, then shes going to deliver it by car or bus. It's my birthday soon, so this makes sense to bring it to me and doing all this.

Great review! I think this Talking Toby is a good product, I wasn't expecting that it would come with Henrietta because of the space needed for the Talking features. But I like his voice and sounds. Are you getting the new Talking Edward?

Calling all Engines! Calling all Engines! It's Toby! [TOBY RINGS BELL] Toby Is The Number 7 Tram Engine! He Doesn't Have A Whistle Or A Horn Like The Other Engines. Instead, Toby has a bell. Toby is a square, brown, wooden steam tram with cowcatchers. Toby's Usually Found On The Quarry Line With His Faithful Coach, Henrietta. Toby may not be as fast or as strong as the other Engines, but he always tries his best. That's Why He's A Really Useful Engine.

It's been said over and over, but that red van should've been Henrietta. It's a decent runner and the sounds are okay (not keen on the voice), and the safety feature is great, but it's a sorely missed opportunity. Weh.

My 3 1/2 y.o critic also says, they should have put Henrietta instead of that wagon. That being said, don't think I'll get Toby, and see how the others run.

I took a mod to my talking tiny to make the red wagon into a Henrietta but it didn go as planned but otherwise it camne out fine
