A fair and balanced review as always. I've listened to the album a couple of times, including the first listen on the Atmos mix, and I enjoyed it. I think like the last two Gilmour albums though, the more I listen to it the more I will appreciate it and grow to love it.

I am 69 and have been listening to Pink Floyd and David's solo music since I was a kid I like the album. I think the problem is when people that are not even close to being as talented as Gilmore try to criticize or critique his music always expect to hear something more like Floyd but the whole idea is it's not Floyd it's David Gilmore he is doing what he has loved his whole life , make music.
@TrackXTrack

Too many people want "Floyd" from Gilmour instead of just letting Gilmour be Gilmour. And part of Gilmour's sound is undeniably Floydian. But it isn't fair when anyone suggests his solo material isn't Floyd enough, as if that's a requirement.

@@gianpietrodangelo3844 Just my opinion, respectful and honest, but certainly straight and direct. You clearly lack of musical culture and a developed listening capability. If you want to become a music expert one of the main characteristic is to expect the unexpected and then your music intellect will grow and your ears and mind will become more open to criticism.

@@TrackXTrack The plus side being, perhaps, that the single-disc vinyl was actually somewhat affordable. 😉 Yeah. I do tend to go both ways on matters like this in terms of album length. Like, I always want more from my favorite artists, but sometimes, less IS actually more. I think back to some albums that actually could’ve been very good if they would’ve been edited down considerably: albums like Yes’ ‘Union’ and even the lone studio release from the supergroup Oysterhead could have been superb had they spent a bit more time on the cutting room floor-just two examples. There are obviously many. Anyway. I enjoy your reviews!

The most important ingredient for a great song is a great melody - on his new album the melodies feel heavily constructed and not very natural, that’s why they are also not very memorable. In that respect this album is probably his worst and light years away from „About Face“ which was full of catchy songs.

I think that from my first 3 listens, this album is another good album from David. 4/5 stars for me. It does feel like a cohesive piece of art. Polly's lyrics, which generally I'm not a fan of, are better on this album. The languid, mystical tones of David's guitar are soothing to these ears. I'm going to buy the vinyl too, I've decided.

I think this album is excellent. Those that think David should release a rock and roll album or such are fooling themselves. The man is near 80 years old. I defy you to find artist his age putting out quality music like this. We should all be so lucky at that age. I love this album. Styles and taste change as we get older. The album has several good tunes on it. It is as should be expected from a man his age. It is far better imho than most of the rubbish being produced today. Those of you who trash him go ahead. You have your opinion. Just know that there are millions upon millions who disagree with you. I am one of them.

Love the new album, it’s fantastic. I agree that the album could have had at least one more new track, maybe even an instrumental. I didn’t think any of the tracks being weak or filler though. It’s his solo work and he doesn’t have to sound like his previous band. I always thought , On an Island was his best solo work yet, until I heard this new album. I’m enjoying it immensely and on rotation. I’ll stay away from giving any stars, because I think it’s silly and it’s all subjective anyway. Thanks for your review though.

I love the "A and B side LP of old" leaner running time with "only" 8 tracks. Since the dawn of the 78 minute CD far too many albums have been bloated, insipid and outstaying their welcome long before it ended. Here we certainly don't endure that. I like Luck & Strange, its a good album. Is it a classic? No, but it has some very strong moments and I prefer it far more to Rattle That Lock that I never quite gelled with.

@@TrackXTrack I think that is a shame because IMHO it has some of the best tracks of the post-Wall era. I'm not sure how any PF fan would not like In Any Tongue. I also think Faces of Stone and A Boat Lies Waiting work much better than anything on L&S. However, now that the collab between Ice T and Gilmour has dropped, I've been much more interested in that. It's the best thing I've heard from the Floyd camp since High Hopes.

I have it on my Spotify list but I wouldn’t actually buy it. It’s ok but not great! The lyrics are one dimensional and unimaginative. His daughter has a lovely voice and he must be really proud to have her playing with him. His own voice is starting to show the strain, which isn’t bad considering how old he is. If he likes it that’s great, he will always remain one of my favourite guitarists

Yes I have a very high end system and. I feel sure they've doctored his voice to try to combat the effects of age. There's just no surface texture to his voice, if you get what I mean. On some tracks it sounds like it's a bit vague and lacking presence. To my ears anyway.

Very disappointing. Romany is the highlight. They need to make a full album. His lyrics are getting pretty old singing about the stars and the Moon and the flow of the sun and the waves and things that rhyme with all those words just doesn’t cut it anymore. Where is the storytelling and the transporting to other places and great guitar solos, I’ll give this a four out of 10.

This recent work is getting lots of promotion and lots of hype...No one has more admiration for DG than myself...but I have given this work two critical listens,...and it just does not resonate. By enlarge the entire work is fairly uninteresting and monotonous. Felt the same way initially about ISLAND until GDANSK brought that work to new life. But at this juncture David's voice sounds old, weak and tired which is understandable given his age...but whatever philosophical meaning is applied to LUCK the music just does not bear up to repeated auditions and the cost for deluxe sets are egregiously insane. It is astonishing how far one's celebrity alone can carry a work that is clearly mediocre.
