Nice work Jason! did you had a freewheeling diode on your mosfet? I believe I see a diode on your protoboard.
@CodeMakesItGo6 жыл бұрын
Jerome Demers indeed I did. Unfortunately I could not figure out why it kept getting blown out and tossed it all out for the H bridge. My wife was mad at how much time I wasted on that FET when the H bridge was only $13. 😁 Thanks for watching!

Could you explain how you hocked up that H-bridge? I'm doing the same 12v hack but without the traction control (just the H-bridge 12v)
@alticetube6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I followed this diagram. "i.ytimg.com/vi/hny6wNhY1uU/maxresdefault.jpg" Basically tie 5v to the VCC, Left enable and right Enable pins. Then control the forward and reverse with the Right PWM and Left PWM pins. You can use the R_IS and L_IS for current feedback if you care or use the enable pins as a emergency cut off. Ensure you do not send a PWM to the R_PWM and L_PWM at the same time. Alternatively you could just use the 12V relays unless you plan to ramp up the speed which I'm guessing is what you are doing. Hope that helps, good luck!

How did you keep the stock board from frying?

Stock board is still powered by the original 6v battery. I use the original power to the motor as triggers on the 12v side.

@@CodeMakesItGo and BTW, that Traxxas 12v seems way faster than my dual stock 550's. Is that to be expected when upgrading (stock to aftermarket) motors?

Would I be able to get a copy of the source code? Just got this car for my son and running into the same issues.
why is the car so noisy? where is the noise coming from? i thought electric cars/motors are supposed to be quiet. when a Tesla or Prius goes by me, i can barely hear anything. great job with traction control. your son is so lucky to have a great dad!

Plastic gearboxes is my main guess. All of those ride on toys have plastic gears with big teeth and no lubrication. No attempt at sound deadening either.

I can help provide more detailed explanations if you decide to build one. There are easier methods too, like building in a throttle ramp instead of the traction control. Alternatively, there exist shops online that sell power wheel upgrades. Possibly some already have this built in. Thanks for watching, let me know if I can help.

@@CodeMakesItGo just wondering how hard would this be to do without much knowledge of anything? Where would I start?
@CodeMakesItGo3 жыл бұрын
@@arnoldtsen3084 Doing the 12v upgrade without software is easiest. Doing it with software to slowly ramp up speed so the wheels aren’t breaking loose is moderate to easy. Going all out with traction control and remote smart phone status is hard. I removed the traction control and now just have a speed ramp because the wheel sensors eventually broke. But I’m here to help if you want to give it a shot. Thanks for watching too!
