Excellent job on this video! Looking forward to part 2? Also can you include fixing/servicing stuck breaks on the 4200.

matthew kerby thank you! I’ll be getting the second part out soon. If you’ve watched any other videos you know we are moving so some of the videos took a backseat to our ranch life this summer. We just purchased a backhoe and will be doing some tune up work on that soon so we will hit the hydraulics in that video. I wasn’t intending on doing a brake job video but I can certainly work that in. Thanks for the idea!

Excellent video. One question: What direction does the fuel shut-off valve turn to shut off, clock-wise? Mine is stuck so I don't want to be trying to force it in the wrong direction. Thanks.

John Dickhute thank you! I’m not certain from memory I believe it’s a quarter turn counterclockwise. I’m not available right now to physically check it but I can get back to you for certain.

@@timberlinetactical You covered everything I had a question on. However,as a beginner at this, I could not see the video because the rag was in the way, or you didn't video the exact location of things - like the oil plug. You did a really good job of explaining, but you may want to consider having someone else film the video while you do the work so what you are doing is more understandable. Thank you

I bought my 4200 used and didn't get a manual, do you know what oil to use in the front axle? Thanks for the video.
@timberlinetactical
@timberlinetactical 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Storm I bought mine used as well and haven’t purchased the service manual yet. If you google it and go to John Deere online manual it says i low vis Hy-Guard JDM. I believe that’s basically their Hydraulic fluid. Easiest thing to do is call over to your local dealer to verify. I need to do the same and flush mine.

@@timberlinetactical I found what you did on line but a friend told me gear lube so I called the local dealer today and he said 80-90 which would be gear lube. If you call your dealer it would be interesting what he says. I repaired my 4 way flashers the way "mars 52" did by wiring in an automotive flasher and it worked fine if you ever have a problem with it. Thanks for the help.
@timberlinetactical

Michael Storm yeah I assumed it was going to be 90 weight oil. I’ll call my dealer when I’m ready to do a video on it and see if they have a print out they can give me. I haven’t had problems with my flashers except for them breaking off in the woods. I’m actually going to remove them and mount lights since I never take it on roads and the factory lights are behind the bucket.

It should be similar on a 5045E?

A lot of the principles here transfer to differing tractors. I cant speak to the specifics of that one but a basic tune up is the same. Thank you!

How do you change the battery out and where is it located
@timberlinetactical
@timberlinetactical 4 жыл бұрын
Sandy Black battery is located behind the brush guard and radiator cover on the front of the tractor. Drop the brush guard by removing the two pins at the base and then loosen the twist lock under the hood. There’s mounting holes for a clamp you will loosen and then disconnect the negative then positive terminal. Install is the reverse procedure.

Oil filter is hand tight only bro bro
@timberlinetactical
@timberlinetactical 3 жыл бұрын
Hey bro bro... you are literally just tightening down a large O ring. Which means your rule of thumb has never had any critical thought put into it. Absolutely nothing wrong with a little extra torque on it as long as you don’t over tighten and slip the ring off. A little more force can keep them from rattling off especially during off road work. A quarter or even a half turn with a wrench after getting it hand right does not harm it in any way and can keep it on in rough conditions. Thanks for watching.

@@timberlinetactical your equipment, your call. I was just reiterating what the oil filter manufacturer instructions call for
@timberlinetactical
@timberlinetactical 3 жыл бұрын
@@guidedbygreen1480 I just looked up three different manufacturers all of which disagree with that. So I’m guessing you’re just assuming what manufacturer say rather than actually looking it up either way do you need a manufacturer to tell you how to properly install an O-ring that’s on you bud
@jnisme
@jnisme 2 жыл бұрын
@@guidedbygreen1480 Anyone who has any mechanical ability or has ever touched a filter knows that you go hand tight+1/4 turn. This isn't unique to tractors. You are flat out wrong on this. Every manufacturer recommends and trains staff of this. But as you said, your equipment, your call. I personally am not a fan of my filters dumping my fluid in middle of a job after the filter rattles loose. But you do you.

Hand tight then an extra 1/4 turn is pretty standard.
