She left my drunk, abusive father in the middle of the night and drove across the country to raise two children alone. We were 2 and 3 years old. I never looked back. I first heard this song when I was 20 year old kid in prison in 2009. I Went in at 17. Got my GED, did a culinary course and got trusty status. Me and 7 other inmates worked at the San Antonio Food Bank after completing the culinary course. Sorry. Forgive me. I love you. I always thought tracy was singing “...is all that you CAN say...”. I loved the song with the hope that one day i’d hear these words from my mum. When i learned tracy was singing “CAN’T”, wow!...never has such a small difference made such a big difference. ‘Daddy’s gone’ by glasvegas. A lesser known masterpiece from my city. ‘Mother’ by lennon is another of my favourites because it cover both parent’s perfectly. This song holds very sad memories for me yet has so much meaning and is a song I cherish very much. My best friend lost his girlfriend in a lake whilst canoeing. A storm hit turning the canoe over and they were too far to swim to shore. I was having a nap in a tent when the owner of the property raced in and asked if I knew my friend and I said yes. He then told me the bad news. I stay with my friend for 1 /1/2 days until she was found and I had to identify her. Such a tragic event as it was meant to have been a fun weekend for all of us. My friend almost drowned but was saved by two navy guys who could swim very well. They saw him going under as he was trying hard to hold her hand (she unfortunately went into an epileptic fit and my friend could hold onto her). That said he held on for as long as he could and was going to go down with her. Lucky the navy guys saved him and told my friend she was gone. The water there was very muddy/dirty and they couldn't see her. They even attempted to find her. The last song I heard them play together before heading off on the canoe was this song...... I'll never forget her and I often think of her as well as what my friend went through. To this day I have never been back to that lake.
