Saros is a good goalie and the cap space in return would really help too. I would trade marner straight up for Saros today.. People need to understand the Leafs are not going to get 2 stud defencemen for a guy on an expiring contract. I think the Leafs need to shore up a goalie before they do anything else anyways.

Trade Marner for Defence. Saros is on the last year of his contract. I have no doubt Saros will explore the FA market, so there is risk, but the Leafs should acquire the assets they lack NOW. Leafs should sign a 1yr deal with a FA goalie this year. Someone like Stolarz (27 GP - 17W - 2.03 GAA - .925 SV%), to play in tandem with Woll, and with the right defensive assets it could potentially balance itself out. If we decide to stick with Samsonav, great, but based on the cap, Stolarz has a hit of $1M and looks to be a reliable backup/fringe starter. Compared to what I'd imagine Samsonav would want, which would look around $4.5M-$5M, but not sure what term he'd want that for. Just an opinion. If you disagree, cool.

The bigger question is Domi and Bertuzzi - will the Leafs pony up $10 Mil + for the both of them and use up a lot of cap space on 2 forwards on the decline. And they will both want term, probably 4-5 years, trust me.

Nashville's top 5 forwards and top 4 d-men are in their 30's. They are an old team and I doubt they will be interested in trading draft picks and prospects for an 11M dollar winger in his late 20's when they are facing a rebuild.

Marner may very well waive his NTC...he thinks/wants to be/ the big dog and while leafs have Mathews and Nylander showing up in the playoffs while Mitch disappears when the physicality intensifies, he might want to move to another team.Besides that, i dont care what Mathews and Willies say, they were chewing Marner out (rightly so) on the bench for his lack of effort, so maybe there is some deeper discord going on....and yeah, S + 2 1sts is a darn good price.

No matter what - a Leafs rehabilitation plan for Marner would be in everyone’s best interests. If Marner gets traded - like Kessel and Kadri - Mitch with a real Stanley Cup might win a championship- something Marner likely knows just won’t happen with the Leafs Core 4. Whatever happens - I am grateful to Mitch for his regular season successes. 😀

Still think Toronto is missing an obvious goalie in Boston's Linus Ullmark. Boston has obviously made the decision that Swayman is their future and a Marner for Ullmark and Brandon Carlo deal makes sense. These two teams have made trades before so there is no reason they won't again.

The front office failed for years. Never replaced muzzin after his career ending injury. Never replaced klingberg after his season ending injury. Gave keefe a plethora of 3rd pairing dmen playing minutes they shouldn't be, then expect a different result in the playoffs. The front office never provide top 4 D to the team. Yet its the coach's fault. The front office just had 22mill in the offseason and the only answer to the D was klingberg. After watching him in Arizona and Calgary. I have zero faith in the gm. Nothing will get addressed. The team will not achieve 46 wins under this gm and front office, let alone a series win in the playoffs

Askarov from Nashville or Wolf from Calgary, or Knight from Florida are the targeted goalies that would pay off in spades. The Leafs need elite goaltending and not hot / cold, up and down goaltending to tandem with Woll (who is prone to injury). I pray he gets better in training to condition himself to remove these injuries, but I see a young dynamite duo for the leafs net minding to take the team all the way. As for Tavares, until he is traded they will not win the cup

Marner for one year is not worth Juuse Saros. Maybe Markstrom and a second. Marner for 11$ million is not worth what you think. Maybe if the Leafs retain salary. But a year of Marner isn't worth that much. Adin Hill , Nic Roy and a second if the Leafs retain 4 million. Utah they could get maybe a Lawson Crouse, Vejmelka and Valimaki again if the leafs retained some money though maybe only a couple million. Seth Jones would be the best defenseman the Leafs have had in a decade by far.
