The main reason for the discontent of the people of the Sahel is the incestuous proximity between ECOWAS and the former western slave trading, colonialist and neocolonialist powers, France and the United States of America in the lead. As long as the ruling english-speaking african elites continue to deny the existence of french neocolonialism and the need to eradicate it from african soil, there will be no compromise in West Africa. On this ideological aspect, which has political, economic, cultural and diplomatic consequences, there is no possible negotiation.

I commend these countries for their courageous move. I hope that more countries can withdraw from the ECOWAS. Economic Community of WASTED African Countries. Let's be honest, does Nigeria truly have a democratically elected government?

You commend them you said, you don't know the implementation on the ordinary people in those countries. First they lost that freedom of movement within ECOWAS states, Two they lost free market trade with ECOWAS states Three they lost access to borrowed money from international organisation. Russia economy is suffering already because of the war it takes to Ukraine, unlike during the Soviet Union era, now Russia has no money to give or borrow to these 3 countries. Lastly is not punishing them, it is the lay down rules which these 3 countries signed to no longer allow military government within ECOWAS region, that there will be sanctions on any state that result to military coup.

I think AES countries have made the right decision to exit because ecowas is controlled by western country. Ecowas has failed not only to address boko haram crisis, but it has failed to help AES countries under terrosist attack. Ecowas can keep its sanctions forever.

To hell with the democracy, allow countries to run their country in their best interest. Burkina Faso during Thomas Sankara was good, Libya was better during the time of Gaddafi ( all were military). In Nigeria it's only thieves that democracy brought to us. To hell with the ECOWAS, allow people to develop their countries.

The language used here is very important and influencial. The military leaders are just that, leaders..not junta. Their actions are demonstrably legitimate, and we know the cause and context for their actions. Sankara, Rawlings, and others also brought their countries through dire situations through military aquisition of decision making which was beneficial to the people, who often demonstrated their accord by massive outpouring in the streets, etc. What is constantly referred to as democratically elected officials, and democratic principles, or democratic whatever is deeply compromised. Elctions are frequently cohearsed and suspect. They appear to be very much determined according to the level of benefit or accommodated interests of foreign influencers. Ecowas is becoming increasingly futile, serving others instead of African cohesion.
