Why should you compare the Volume Profile with the Market Profile. Volume and Time are completely different informations. Many time spent is not the same thing as many volume. But for simplicity it's a really good video.

Volume Profile and TPO are very different in their function. TPO stands for Time Price Opportunity. It is based on time, not volume, it shows you where the price spent most of the time in a session. So most times, TPO and volume profiles will look similar, because generally if price spends most of its time at a particular level, then that will also be the place with the most volume. But sometimes, the TPO profile and volume profile will differ and TPO will have a different POC and value areas than volume profile. Ideally, both should be used together for analyzing price data.

Yes you are right, TPO and volume profile can give different information. The level is more likely to come out when both TPO and Volume profile match 🙌

Trading View doesn't have access to the type of data that you get with professional tools like Ninja Trader or Sierra Charts. Someone only recently made a TPO "indicator" for Trading View and it's pretty limited because of the programming language that trading view uses. (The guy is in my trading group.)

My friend, time beats volume all day long. TPO doesn't estimate volume. That's not its purpose. It displays time at each level. And time has more of an impact on the market than volume. They're both useful, but most professional traders prioritize the TPO over volume profile.

@ricomajestic What indicates market conditions better? Spending a lot of time at a certain price? Or a lot of volume moving at a certain price? High volume could be just a couple of big accounts trading. But if the whole day is spent around a single price, that means thousands of traders think that price is the fair price to trade at. So THE MARKET likes that level, not just couple of big hedge funds or market makers. Usually there's some correlation between volume profile and tpo, but it's not 100%. They're both useful, but TPO gives you a sense of the entire market.

@@SmartAlx Well how do you know it's not just a few retail traders that are trading for example with a low price stock or during the overnight session when volumes are really low. I would think big institutional investors or big volume orders would have more sway since they are the smart money. They defend those positions too if they get tested.

Wow I just got a leap in trading insight from you. Overlapping candles and volume traded. Duh! Why didn’t I think of this, staring at charts for the longest times. I only need good enough volume to trade options directionally. Biggest gains is made in trends anyways.
