T&H also films and releases original interviews with iconic people who have experienced successes, while also persevering through life's highs and lows. We look forward to sharing more of these perspectives and insights.
Our hope with these videos is to push your thinking. As Alan Watts said “No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle.” - Alan Watts.

I found Alan through a loose shoe-lace. I bent down to tie it in a bookstore, looked over at the shelf near me and there was one of his books. I was so drawn to it. I took it home and my awakening began. The first time in my life I learned to let go. Thank God for this man.

I'm not so sure the title and the subject matter lined up this round. But to understand all is to forgive all (as a completely different lesson) might regard a sense of morality. It's like this. The nurse who heals is a cog in a brutal wheel that requires a certain income in order for the healing to take place. The traveling psychologist trashes the earth with his car. There is no such thing as a completely good nor evil act; furthermore the lesser evil is often based on some form of confirmation bias. Our instincts are to survive and that leaves no room for moral superiority in any regard
@philliprobinson7724
@philliprobinson7724 6 ай бұрын
Hi SmileFreestyle.. Once your survival is assured, you can start to consider what it means to be moral. It's a luxury only the rich can afford, but few ever buy into. Cheers, P.R.

@@philliprobinson7724 That's an interesting quote. But I've been in survival mode most of my life (PTSD, financial issues that come with debilitating issues) and one of the things I've thought most about and acted on on some level has been morality. Far from a good person though; whatever the hell that is
@philliprobinson7724
@philliprobinson7724 6 ай бұрын
@@SmileFreestyle-hx2rc Hi S.F. My final sentence is not a quote. Believe it or not, it's a personal observation. Others have probably made the same point. Extreme poverty doesn't lead to moral behaviour because it destroys our freedom of choice in life-or-death matters (like food). Your final question of "what is a moral person?" is subject to personal definitions of "right" and "wrong", as you obviously realize. I'd suggest "a moral person" is one who considers the nature of "right and wrong" because it's important to them. "An immoral person" is one who couldn't give a hoot about the topic. "Nice guys come last", those sorts of sayings. I also have a physical disability, acquired in my youth when I had an "I'm bullet-proof" philosophy on life. For me, "eat, drink, and be merry" rapidly changed into "act in haste repent at leisure". Such is life, "the unexamined life isn't worth living" (Socrates). Neither is an unexamined moral code. The best quote I know about "right and wrong" in regard to human behaviour, comes from the 17th century Dutch philosopher Desiderus Erasmus. "As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons". I like it because it allows disabled people some protection from bullies ("without surrender"). Any moral code can be fairly judged by how it treats the weakest persons. All the best. Cheers, P.R.

Due to the audio quality of most Alan Watts recordings it more often than not makes his words far easier to listen to, especially casual listeners. Some music choices may "clash" but one video of Alans changed my perspective on that very thing, teaching to pay attention to all sounds as one process, that way nothing can clash. There's a video called Sudden Enlightenment and it has a light ambient backing track and I think that type of music is best for his speeches. I believe most creators of Alan Watts content put a lot of effort and care into syncing the excerpts with appropriate music and images. It works most of the time

@@paavoviuhko7250 Hi Paavo. Forgive me for intruding on your conversation. I agree entirely on the role of dialogue. However I doubt whether any meaningful dialogue with extreme Evil is possible, because just as "Good" is equivalent to "Truth", so "Evil" is equivalent to "falsity", or dishonesty. In dialogue with an entity that is dishonest by definition, I'd suggest any dialogue is meaningless.
