This might be you, but even if it's not, you probably possess some traits and experience some of the highs (and many lows) of somebody on the right side of the IQ spectrum. This can actually be disastrous for trading. VP and Robb explore this phenomenon, and show you what can be done to cope with it all.

Great podcast! I am such an Engineer thinking guy (probably because I am an Engineer) and I have exactly the issue that Robb and VP said (among many other things), I always look for the best but some times I overdo it, and I keep going on "improving" something that already works. Btw AMAZING quote of "Falling Forward"! VP I cannot thank you enough for your teaching, from NNFX algorithm and psychology to truths about life, putting all this together and creating podcasts is like holding a flashlight in a dark road full of treasures that we can't see, thanks man.

This episode hit home so hard on a lot of points. My Trading Personality is ESTJ. I've never taken an IQ test however I finished high school 4 months early, and my HSED scores were in the top 7% of graduating students 2005. I've been "learning" to trade since 2020😅. "Perfection is the enemy of progress" was a bar! That's so me right now. I really needed to hear that to put some fuel to my fire. Gratitude to the both of you!

Smart enough to create a system that works and dumb enough to just follow the system. Some people are so smart that "improve the system" as they use it so stop suing it then never start anything. Paralysis of analysis.

As an Electrician, i have to say trading goes very well with an electrical mind. With electricity and especially troubleshooting, you have to work systematically through the steps every time, or you will NEVER get to the solution or, you get electrocuted and die . Follow a system like its gospel, and don't stop.

So clearly as a linear thinking person its hard to get a system 'good enough' to cut it. But i have to force myself to think ' perfection is paralysis'

The section of being humbled is so accurate. I remember thinking fresh out of highschool that I was gonna drop out of uni and trade fulltime within my first semester. I graduate next year, and am just now getting somewhat close to going fulltime loll. However long you think its gonna take, you can mulitply it by about 3 lol.

that last part is a big reason why i slapped together a half assed algorithm, because i knew i would be sitting on my hands until i was sure its good. instead i just got a baseline, confirmation and an exit (and atr), then started before i even knew what a full algorithm looks like.

Spot on! Make it simple. Choose decent probability entries, don't over-trade, learn to sit on your hands when it's boring waiting for an entry. Manage your risk level, take smaller losses without feeling pain instead of using the 'when in trouble - double' concept. Let your good trades run, cut the bad ones early. Don't blame yourself for small losses, it's part of the game. And the same goes for wins, don't ever think you were smart! That is really risky. You are absolutely not perfect and neither is the market, you just need to go with the flow, the price action is your prophet, nothing else matters. Dumb it down. Who the f..k needs advanced indicators. React - don't you ever predict. You could wish you had a crystal ball, but you haven't. Accept it.

So ture about being the smart kid getting perfect grades and when it comes to trading we want to be perfect in developing our trading system with good stats. I finally broke out of that habit, and I am still foward testing a system and developing another one.

@@NoNonsenseForex Same for you because you created a system that works but smart enough to just follow it. Supper smart people would try to create the system then keep trying to improve it to perfection and never use because is not perfect.

There is a difference between Smart, Intelligence and Wisdom. When you think you are smart and choose not to find wisdom and utilize it with intelligence. you are no real benefit to yourself or to society. Arrogant and conceited do not learn how to be humble and invaluable to the world.
