Note to self: Watching David's videos while I'm hungry is not a good idea. 😂 Dude, the Luchi Ghugni and Dhokar Dalna look insanely good. I love anything with chickpeas and lentils, so I'm sure I'd love them as well! The egg toast looks fire and I used to love fried fish cutlets so I'm sure that would be right up my alley as well. And the banana flower chop sounds really interesting! Definitely something I'll have to try someday. Killer video, man!

Without sounding too pretentious, of all metros of India, Calcutta has overall the cheapest street food hands down, with Chennai a close second. In most other cities only a few older parts of the cities have cheap food but in Kolkata the food is cheap literally everywhere. Effect of decades of communism I suppose, who knows. All I know is that I can get a plate of decent Fish cum Mutton Veg Thali for less than Rs 80/- there.

@Baduoh5 жыл бұрын
Nice seeing you guys trying Bengali street food. Though foreigners do not know it - and other Indians hate to admit it - Kolkata is the street food capital of India. You went to Dacres lane, which is generally a lunch destination for office goers. But you can go anywhere in Kolkata and find food of similar type. Having stayed in multiple cities of India, I know for sure that when it comes to street food - nothing beats Kolkata. The sheer variety is amazing ... you just scraped the surface. Luchi is at the lowest end of the taste spectrum ... there are dozen stuffed varieties.
@MGongopadhyay5 жыл бұрын
Dear David, There is a difference between Puri and Luchi. Puri is made of whole-wheat flour and Luchi is made of white-flour. Baturi on the other hand is also made of white-flour and has curd or yeast in the dough. None of them is a substitute for the other. Dhoka is made of matar-dal or chick-pea paste.
@Suvorupaofficial5 жыл бұрын
West Bengal food is less spicy and very tasty. You won't get good poisoning here easily. And Kolkata is a very cheap place to live. It's very cheap compared to other big Indian cities and if you visit rural Bengal, it's even cheaper.

Once you are done showing the cheapest street food joints do care to show your viewers some of the nicer places of Kolkata like Newtown and decent places to eat unless your intent is to showcase the filthy streets and unhygienic street food as a novelty item to the western world. And stop saying it's so cheap that we can eat it ten times for a dollar it's an insult albeit a subtle one.
