Well done, lots of good information. I like ash beavertail paddles, a guy here in Maine named John Porter from Patten, Maine makes them. His dad started making them many years ago, a good quality paddle at a reasonable price. I have some original Chestnut paddles, clunky with a so so handle but I like their canoes so I give them a pass on paddles. I agree with your take on kayak paddles.

John Porter is very respected! Wow I would love to get my hands on an original Chestnut paddle, that's awesome👍 Not to many years ago I use to paddle and moose hunt out of a 18' Chestnut freighter. What a great canoe that was! I love the grain in ash but I love the colour of black walnut, so many choices 😂 Thanks for coming out Robin✌️

I don't claim to be an expert, I've only made a handful of paddles my self, but this jives exactly with my own thoughts. Great video, few like it on yt

Really honest and detailed review of different paddles and their pros and cons. I learned a lot from this short video. That custom paddle with the oil finish and ergonomic grip is so much better especially when compared to the manufactured paddles you show early in the video. I like your humour when you said that the cheap, spare paddle bends like a Slinky, haha. That custom, fracto-burn pattern on the last paddle, looks like it could be the outline of a lake somewhere. Now your challenge this summer is to find and paddle the lake that matches that pattern. I'd write more but the French Fries are ready....now where's my spoon?
@OpenAirOutdoors
@OpenAirOutdoors Жыл бұрын
You're right that does look like it could be a lake moped out! Maybe a future custom paddle with "Secret Lake" 😆 And a straw for the gravy on those fries🤣 Take care Craig✌️

Very interesting information Marc! I’ve always wondered about all the differences. I find it strange that people think I’m weird eating French fries with a spoon 😉. Thanks Brother! 🍻

great video. I just blindly built the paddles for my strip canoe according to Gilpatricks specifications. Never even occurred to me that there is a lot of different designs out there with different functionalities.
