Ms Ding is so talented, but the thing i so admire is that she is taking a 1000 year old traditional chinese instrument and playing todays bluegrass. The fact she is trying that and is so great is really admirable.

So smooth and nice the Ruan sounds with the guitar. She certainly has succeeded in adapting the bluegrass sound to the traditional Chinese instruments that she plays so well

This is great hearing bluegrass played on traditional Chinese instruments. There is a video somewhere on KZbin of a concert in Vancouver Canada many years ago with Chinese musicians playing brilliant bluegrass on several traditional instruments. I happy to see this. Having said that, bluegrass does have a certain sound produced by banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro etc. those are the traditional instruments if that music.

It seems that Chinese folk music and Appallachian folk music (of which Bluegrass is a sp9in off) have a lot in common, especially the pentatonic scales.

Since Bluegrass can be played on a traditional Chinese instrument; I wonder if traditional Chinese music could be played on the banjo?

One is an authoritarian dictatorship running a surveillance state; the other is democracy with rule of law. When the Chinese Communist Party surrenders and allows the Chinese people to govern themselves we can work together. Until then, no chance.
