In Dominica we melt the cocoa (caco) in about a cup of water, with the seasonings (bay leaf, spice, rosemary, nani, nutmeg, ginger, rosemary etc). Then strain, add desired amount of water, milk and sugar to taste. Sometimes we thicken with arrowroot (toloma). Delicious!!!

Coco tea is a breakfast staple in St. Lucia and is served with bakes and saltfish. Delicious! I try to make it in the US on cold, wintery days.

Lucians make awesome cocoa tea when they do it at home for the family. But Some of these people selling cocoa tea like to stretch it too much. Some sellers are really nice though.

we make it in a similar way in St.vincent (BIG UP VINCY MASSIVE!!!).... cinnamon bay leaves and anise seed are brought to a boil in water then the cocoa added till it dissolves, then add milk and sweeten to taste. Never had it with coconut milk that's a must try!

Love cocoa tea! I drink it quite often, and it's very good for you. I make mine slightly different though. I put water to boil add my spices, and when it starts to boil, I add the cocoa balls . When the cocoa is dissolved, I add milk and enjoy a cup. We all have our own methods of making it, but essentially, it's the same thing.

I make that here in Florida. My neighbor from Suriname taught me to add a few leaves bayrum (pimienta racemosa) from my tree and it is SO addictive.

Greetings from St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands! Chris..you should try it using fresh lemon grass instead of the bay leaves. I buy Cocoa almost every Saturday morning at our local farmers market. I grew up drinking this...love it so much.

Cacao is " the" drink of the Americas. Pods grow all over the Latin-Caribbean regions as it is an original plant/fruit of the (tropical) Americas. Tastes of home. 100% all natural. It's made in a similar manner in Panama/Colombia. Indigenous folks of the Darien drink it all day long. Awesome!

My grenadian family makes it differently slightly. We boil the water with spices (I'll be trying the orange peel) we add the powder and wait until it dissolves. We would strain it and pour into cups then add farine inside

Looks so delicious! How long can the unsed cocoa ball last? What I mean does it have an expiration date? I have some stored in an airthight container, for a number of years. My aunt made it for me on one of my visits to TnT.

23SuperLioness Thank you so much. The ones that I have is still intact my aunt added the tonkabean seeds grated with the nutmeg, and cinnamon etc and rolled it in a dusting of flour to keep it from drying out. But the oil from the cocoa seeped through and combined with it so there is a white coated flim over it on the outside but it smells so good. I will try making some on the weekend, and let you know if it taste good. Thanks again!

am sorry but u got it all wrong it's not cocoa tea ppl pronounce it that way but its caco tea and it's definitely not hot chocolate
@caribbeanpot
@caribbeanpot 7 жыл бұрын
As explained.. to a general audience (global) the closest thing to this would be 'hot chocolate" And I stand by what I said, since it's basically the same sort of ingredients in hot chocolate (milk, cocoa powder, sweetener, spices). Additionally, you may spell it 'caco"(I'm cool with that) but the two correct ways are cocoa and cocao .
