@@Yhordicator I guess you have to look into the history there better. The TFW pinute is a copy of the Visayan design from a museum so I guess you have to look into that as well. I own several of your fine swords, my question is why do Indonesian karambits utilize rippers? I do have in my collection examples of Indonesian karambits with rippers as well as being much more straight instead of a more pronounced curve. My examples come from Herman Suwanda of Mande Muda fame.
@RonOrGina
@RonOrGina Жыл бұрын
Each sword and knife are designed and adapted to the fighting style it is used in. All Karambits are for infighting though the Indonesian Karambit is a tool for Herman's grappling style. Most Silat systems are grappling oriented in some way or another. I hope that helps.

Hi James, I'm from Iloilo in panay island. I was taught a different type of kali(like all males in the family) from my grandfather which have been passed on from his grandfather before him. Anyway, the answer to your question is "yes". We visayans prefer agility than strength since most moro raiders of old times usually outnumbers us thus forcing us to dual wield. We usually use 2 "Garab" or 2 "ginuntings" but on the north they use single wielded "tenegre" and "binangon" in the south

Yes Ron we use that to cut tree branches for wood consumptions and also use to defend ourselves. During 90's when I was a child I witness so many terrible things regarding that bolos. The hacking usually occurs when the opposing sides are drunk and fight each other. During those days our barangay/barrio became infamous for hacking and many tricycle taxis are afraid to fetch passenger in our area. Whenever there are quarrelling between men it turns into bolo fighting, I think 20+ people have died during late 80's to late 90's. One of my relative was killed because of irrigation because farming is the main source of income. We didn't sue to perpetrator to court because of financial problems.To date my place is now peaceful and any and wherever there is a misunderstanding the village chief pacify the two sides.

Mr. Ron I have seen your other videos regarding the weapons by northern Luzon Igorot tribes (Bugkalot, Kankanaey, Ibaloy, Kalinga, Kyangan, Ifugao, etc) specially the axes. Those are use to cut three branches and to remove head out of the body from their victims. Igorots were not conquered by the Spanish during their colonial era in the Philippines so they preserved their traditional cultures till this day. One of the infamous tradition of the igorots during American era to early 90's are the so called head hunting period. A lad cannot get a bride unless he can present 5 pieces of severed head from other clan to his bride. That is why the other clans use to travel in groups to avoid being hunted by enemy clans. Thanks anyway for the info on other TFW I am intending to collect some of it. Cheers
@RonOrGina
@RonOrGina 10 жыл бұрын
eric aquino Thank you for your input here. I was told by my Igorot friends the Spanish never made it far. They did manage to take the weapons from the fallen Spanish and make some improvements, hence the Northern Sansibar. Do you know how the Sansibar arrived up in the north?
@actsapol1984
@actsapol1984 10 жыл бұрын
Ron Kosakowski only a little info the Spaniards did manage to settle in a town called La Trinidad in Benguet province because it is easy for them. The place is a valley between mountains where they use it as their base for expedition way north, but because of the difficult terrain and lush mountain forests their guns and canons are no match to skills and weaponries of the natives. The Spaniards use Filipino recruits in most of their expeditions from other provinces that cooperate with them and when their group have fallen to the hands of igorots the latter manage to replicate the bolos and other weapons they have captured that's what I think. By the way my place is near the border of Pangasinan and Benguet and I belong to one igorot tribes.

Yes and believe me, I respect your knowledge. I have had debates on many of the TFW blades over the years. What I see is not everyone can possibly know about every single design from every tribe there. While they are all similar, they all have tribal meaning in the blade design or due to something big that went on in their past. Being in FMA's all my life and then getting into TFW had me researching for year all over the place, now even outside the Philippines. I have learned a lot.

The Filipino styles are in-fighting styles for the most part. Much of the practice is to develop that skill of getting in. All fighting eventually comes to some sort of in-range which is the most dangerous range so we practice the reflex development drills heavily to develop this area of fighting.

Not that I know of. I see more Ginuntings in the military. It was a fighting sword more in ancient times though. A good one also. Its feels good slashing and thrusting with it.
