I guess my family may have been from a different part of Hungary than yours. We use Lekvar ( which I make from scratch) for our filling and no oil. I also mix by hand so as to not overwork the dough. I make 5 batches every Christmas/ New Year. Thank you for sharing as I had not known there were other types of Kiffles. Merry Christmas and God bless!

We usually make them with lekvar but at the time of the filming of this video, it wasn’t available. I LOVE that you make your own!

My Hungarian Mother in law taught me this cookie. I've been making it for over 40 years. Never knew the name! I brush the top with a little egg wash before baking. Never added oil though.

This is the recipe my Great Aunt bought here from Hungary, Mary Farkas. No Vegetable oil was ever used though. She taught me this recipe when I was a little girl. I am the third generation born here in the USA. I just mixed up 4 batches this morning to roll out form tomorrow! Merry Christmas to all and Happy Hanukkah!!!

My mom always added whipped egg whites to the nut mixture.
When I make this with walnuts or poppy seed filling. I roll out a round dough and slice pizza style, spread with filling, cut, roll and bake. Delicious!

I just found your channel as I was looking to make a list of Christmas cookies, and this looks wonderful! My question is whether you’re using salted or unsalted butter? It seems that all the videos that I see on different cookies nobody ever mentions if they use salted or unsalted butter and I never know how to adjust the salt in the recipe unless I know ahead of time. Thank you again and Merry Christmas!👍🏼🙏🎄

I never buy unsalted butter. Every recipe on my channel that calls for butter, will have salted butter in it. Thanks for the question! 😊

My Hungarian grandma used to make her walnut kifli filling with ground up golden raisins and walnuts plus some sugar and a little orange or lemon juice. Is this a regional variation?

Can u clarify the amount of flour? Video says 2 cups but written recipe says 4 cups. Thank you
@AllOneSacredServices Жыл бұрын
It’s 4 cups for a whole batch. We made half the recipe so in the video, she says 2 cups. I apologize for not being more clear. Enjoy!
