We call it elile oka, they use enough unblended crayfish in preparation and it tastes so sweet. Oh! This reminds me home, I'm craving for some now.

My 5 ingredient Egusi soup was ebe ano.🍽 My replacements were dry fish for stockfish and Uziza leaf for bitter leaf.The Uziza made it more spicy ù I cooked very small portion so in case of any comma,I will either forget about the soup or kukuma add more ingredients.Thanks for sharing.I'm really glad I tried this out.

I know this meal but minus the termite. A friend made it for me once and I fell in love with it. In her case, she used very soft corn only (not old one) roughly grounded it and put pepper, salt, maggi and red oil.

Fitawrari yes we do! No joke. Winged termites are a rich source of protein and are edible. Google it. One day when I see it in one of my market runs, I will share.

@@FloChinyere I was flogged n pepper was put in my eyes for my gluttony for this meal. Grandma made some n kept her own portion near d fireplace n I went n stole it with her dried meat in d ngigha. I hear weee that day. Grandma always had things that can make u loose ur sunday school training e.g fried n smoke dried worms from palm tree, fried termites, palm nut called "ojukwu", and dried meat hanging over the fire place. May her soul rest in peace.

We call it ikpo oka. Use to eat it when i was younger but not really my favourite food. Whenever we pick termites at it's season, grandmother will surely prepare this.

This is one Igbo food I can truly say that I have not had before. Flo can you cook it without the banana or uma leaves? Just curious. Anyways I will ask my mom about this food. i am sure this is the first time of seeing it. Thank you so much Flo. Now I have one new food I can try and hopefully my kids would like it. Yes you can use foil bags, moi moi bowls, even bake in the oven with a muffin tray. It's only the texture that will be different. I would like to hear if Mummy knows about the meal.

@@FloChinyere So I asked my mom about the meal and she said it is called Ukpo Oka in nnewi and she hated cooking it when she was young. She used mortar and pestle to prepare it hence why she hated it. She also said that her mom would prepare it with leafy vegetables. They didn't use termites when it was prepared. She also talked about Agbarụ-atii. She said her mom prepared it when she visited with her brothers. Anyways we learn everyday and thanks for using your platform to educate us all. I know for sure I will not make Agbarụ-atii or Ukpo Oka.

This is really my first time of seeing this kind of recipe I thought you were going to make "asusu oka" which is made with dry fish.. So I guess there could be other Igbo dishes am yet to discover. Thank you aunty Flo.

We make ours with dry fish too, and it's of crayfish. The more traditional people use termites though. So I think it's a matter of preference.

Me too. My dad use to prepare this meal for us, especially during the rainy seasons, when termites are all over the place and corns freshly harvested from the farm.

You are quiet right about grandma's, not to see the corn processing with knife (quicker), or the peeling of yams etc- EDO Grandma's would refer to grand daughter's cooking as 'new eras' (ewie oree). Lol.

My grandmother cook this 5days s for sale but she never use livrr or any meat. She use cooked dry corn , peper crayfish palm oil. Alot Onion ogiri . Nchawu. Her own alwsy sale fasterand test best

If you like the texture of the real Igbakwu, only fresh corn will not give you that. It is messy. In fact for the realest texture use only semidry corn. I mixed them because I can't find semidry corn here.

If you eat cockroaches in your own part of the world like I'm some places in China, then use it. Good appetite... But the Aunti Flo I know, doesn t do cockroach in Nigeria not West Africa.

Good......Please make this with Chicken Breast Meat or Beef Meat. Cut the Meat in pieces or shred to tiny pieces....THEN ADD ground Nigerian Pumpkin ( the one we cook and eat ) NOT the Egwusi Melon.........That will be great.....Let us KNOW next time. Shrimp or Crayfish or both might work.

Chinedu I know what you mean but these ones are very fresh barely mature obodo oyibo corn o. With fingers, the kernels will just be crushing instead of leaving the corn bone.

Yes dear, the insect. It's a snack/ food in Igbo land (Africa). The roasted one is my best.
