Wow!!! What a beautiful process to make this holiday cake! Has this recipe been in your family for generations? Amazing process! Great video!
@SineadDavies6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Risa! it's a long process but worth it! I think a lot of households have their own twists but basically the recipe is the same for every cake! We don't use fresh apples where some people do :D I'm so glad you enjoyed it! XX

Very much like an American fruitcake which my mom made a couple of months b4 Christmas and soaked it in rum or whiskey.
@SineadDavies3 жыл бұрын
Very similar indeed Carol☺️

Looks delish. Years ago during the Christmas holidays, I used to buy Jameson's Irish Whiskey Cake in the department stores here in Miami, FL. It was fabulous, but for many years I haven't seen anywhere here. The ingredients included pecans or walnuts, and currants, but did not have the other dried fruits. BTW, what is "golden syrup"?

Hi, the recipe looks delicious. Is this cake the same as the one you get in weddings 🤔? I went to a wedding last year and the cake was so delicious...

Sinead!!! My phone doesn’t like writing your name 😂!! Great baking tutorial. But I know I would never ever make it because I absolutely hate eating fruit cake hahaha!!!!! I’m so bad at lining cake tins too!!! I just can’t do it!!! Wow your mom did so well and made it look so easy!!! There’s so much stuff that goes into a Christmas cake 😱😱!! That ingredient list!! I enjoyed your baking video ^_^! Do more!!!

Waoh, this is so amazing and beautiful. I'm surprised on how you feed the cake. Here in Costa Rica, we feed the fruits for months prior to bake. I'll love to try this method 💗

Abigail Jiménez awh thank you so much beautiful😍 That’s incredible I’d love to learn the Costa Rican method!🥰 I am always amazed by how different cultures bake differently 😊 thank you so much for watching my darling!❤️❤️

Definitely going to make this, next year... quickly running out of time this year and just discovered it! Though, I suppose, I could make it a St. Patrick's Day cake as it does have Irish whiskey in it (Go hiontach!). I'm curious about the icing. The description box cut off after "... but traditionally it is iced with..." like a good, old-fashioned, cliff-hanger, I'm dying to know the answer! Go raibh maith agaibh agus Nollaig Shona daoibh! (To you and your fam!) Slán!

Ah David that's fantastic to hear! I know it's a bit of a long process but one which is so worth it! (I'd make it any time of year now lol) Also thanks for letting me know the description box cut off, typical! it's MARZIPAN whoooo too delicious KZbin clearly wanted to keep it a secret! (and to you my friend!) Slán!

Do you pierce the cake with a skewer every time you feed it? Or just the first time?
@SineadDavies Жыл бұрын
Great question! just the first time :)
@sean.furlong19892 жыл бұрын
Do you make your own marzipan and icing?
@SineadDavies2 жыл бұрын
I don't! I find it very fiddly, the shop bought stuff works great and is much more cost effective :)
@sean.furlong19892 жыл бұрын
@@SineadDavies Same here that way I can make edible decorations from the left over roll out icing. Just dye it with food colouring and use my Christmas shaped cookie cutters to make decorations.

Is there no need for baking soda? Is the all purpose flour got these added already?
@SineadDavies4 жыл бұрын
Hi jacy😊 all purpose flour does not have any raising agent added already, that would be self raising flour☺️ so you will need to add the baking soda 🤗

American measurements please? I don't have a scale...is there any way to say this in cups? ;)
@suburbohemian5 жыл бұрын
also why do you have to tie paper around the *outside* of the tin? (sorry if this is a repeat question, but not inclined to read every prior comment sorry)
@SineadDavies5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cat 😊 I can do American cups ASAP (unfortunately I don’t have a quick conversion I’ll have to do the measurements for you as I typically only work with scales) I will hopefully get them to you by tomorrow!😊 As regards the paper it’s the way we have always done it in my family because it adds an extra layer to prevent the outside of the cake from overcaramelising🥰 If you’d prefer to use cake strips that’d work great or even nothing at all if you don’t mind the edges being a little more baked than the centre❤️❤️❤️
@tonyobrannigan97844 жыл бұрын
Forgive me for asking a stupid question. What is the purpose of wrapping the tin?
@SineadDavies4 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question AT ALL Tony :) With this bake because it is such a low temperature and slow baking time the wrapping actually helps to prevent over browning and aid with even heat distribution! :)
@tonyobrannigan97844 жыл бұрын
Just completed my first barmbrack. Really looking forward to trying this next. Probably next weekend.

Hi, I'm ruby, just bumped into your video. Cake looks delicious, I've one question, the cake tin is it a 10 inch tin?. Tqvm
@SineadDavies4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruby! Fantastic question and thank you! The cake tin is 9 inch but you could easily use a 10 inch you’d just lose a slight bit of height! (Definitely wouldn’t be a problem🥰)
