Happy New Year, everyone....traditional meal; absolutely. (Maybe it's jus' me) but: with people returning to work after the holiday, if 'we' put collard greens or cabbage and 'hocks,' those leftovers in the microwave, you cain't use that breakroom again for 2-3 days, and yes, I said 'cain't.' Thank you, Miss Sheila for the upload of this video. Be well. Blessings...

What we call a sweet potatoe is from Central America, farmed and ate for over 5000 years. So how is it slaves from Motherland food?

The yam came from Africa with the slaves but the sweet potatoes took its place in out cultural dishes bc of its abundance in the Americas

So sorry for any confusion. The slaves brought the nyami or yams with them during the passage, but sweet potatoes were more plentiful in the USA. If you find yams, the cooking technique is interchangeable with that of sweet potatoes. With this said, you’ll find it served in many Blacks’ homes for luck & remembrance in the New Year. ❤️

We should trust God for our lives and prosperity. Putting luck 🍀 into a particular cooked meal 🥘 for new years goes against God’s word.
