Samis and Vikings are not linked. The Sami are indigenous to Siberia, they went to Scandinavia 3000 years ago. The norse people are indigenous to Scandinavia because it is there their unique strand of Indo-European came to be through the mixing of the hunter gatherers there since right after the Ice Age and the Yamnaya people who brought the horse there. That is why the Norwegian Fjord Horse is related to ancient breeds from as far east as Mongolia despite not being a modernly bred breed. The Sami entered Scandinavia after this. Regarding the actual viking foods, they date back way further than the viking age. They ate the same fauna and plants since even before the Bronze Age, though it truly developed during the Nordic Bronze Age because of the betetr tools, richer petty kingdoms, and larger gatherings of communities thanks to minimal farming.

It's just a woke thing they do since samis love cultural praise. It's the part of the whole "native american" comparrison delusion alot of modern samis and Americans have. Can't talk about Norway for a second without making sure to praise their "natives". They don't know the history, they just think it's the same as in America. In reality it is more like the opposite. The Scandinavians were in Scandinavia before the Samis, and they don't have a bloody history with eachother. But they can't resist being woke.

"Vikings" means to raid, but we refer to Scandinavians of the time as Vikings because the raiding made them historically famous. It is not wrong to call them vikings. We call it the Viking Age for a reason. Their race was and is "Norse".
@Lita13 жыл бұрын
@@vergil8833 Vi means us Kongre means king. The words comes from the ship as it was called Vitkongre. The word translates to we the people are kings. They believed they were in control and elite, meaning that pirate ship. Most likely Old Norsen people, their race, sunk the ship themselves yes!!!!👍😅
@vergil88333 жыл бұрын
@@Lita1 Not sure what you're talking about, but "viking" comes from "vikingr" which we have no idea what the origin of was, since we only know of the word from the viking age even though it probably existed way longer, where "vikingr" was the activity that included raiding. "Vikingar" went "vikingr". "Viking" was not a specific boat. As far as I know from the linguistics, "viking" is not related to "king" in any way. Reindeer meat, the most delicious meat on the planet. Can be used with anything, some wierd traditional dish or pizza, up to you.
@be2Gee4 жыл бұрын
@Ma x Never tasted reindeer meat, says the one who claims it to be the most expensive meat in Norway lol. Reindeer meat is fairly cheap in Norway. It cost under kr.100 for 400 grams of skavet Reinsdyrkjøtt, sold in just about any grocery store. Often on discount for 50-60 kr, barely more than minced beef. Perfect for pizza, taco, gyros, pasta etc, mix it with taco mix, some sauce or whatever you prefer and you have a simple, quick, cheap and delicious meal. When I'm in Norway I use reindeer meat several times a week... Stroganoff, viltgryte, finnbiff with mashed potatoes and pytt-i-panne are some other recipes I use reindeer meat for. It's perfect and it's cheap... So much you can use it for, make it the way you want it. I've almost replaced any other meat entirely with reindeer meat. Probably what I miss the most when I'm in Thailand.

Now that i think about it, isn’t fermentation a way to preserve food to make it last longer? But why would a cold place like Norway, sweden etc need fermentation when its cold all year? Cant you preserve meat for a long time when its always snowing there? Can someone explain that to me?
@HaukHattrem Жыл бұрын
its not cold all year at all. the summer months are actully very warm 25-30 degress. and in peak summer we also get the famous "midsommer" or midnightsun which is 24 hours off constant sunlight were the sun dosent set before late August.

the sami are native to the ural mountains and not norwegian, swedish, or finnish. Norway and Sweden are named after their founding and native tribes, the Norse and Svea.

This is not a truth at the begining, fermented fish never came from the Sami. How could you bore through 100 meters of ice? very unlikely. Fermented fish is also salt and sugar? How much sugar did the sami have?

More indigenous than the sami. By the time the samis entered Scandinavia the Nordic Bronze Age was already at its height. And we know they explored and conquered all of Norway since we have found Bronze Age houses as far north as Tromsø. The sami are more accurately indigenous to Siberia in Russia.

@@kajsamanske2876 Sampi is the nonexistant land the samis claim as theirs. They're actually indigenous to Siberia though, so claiming that they should own a huge chunk of Scandinavia considering the Scandinavians were there first is very silly.
@kajsamanske28763 жыл бұрын
@@vergil8833 I am well aware what "sampi" is. However, I have only ever heard it being pronounced Sapmi or Saepmi. Now, I have never heard that Sami people would originate from Siberia. They have however been living in the northern part of scandinavia for at least e few thousand years, long before the scandinavian countries where a thing. Therfore it would make perfect sense that the sami people got to live and own their own land, even if that land is technically still a part of the scandinavian countries. Read up on some facts next time you want to correct someone.

@@kajsamanske2876 I can tell that Vergil is 110% Norwegian. Instead of doing research, he listens to what his family tells him about the Sámi people. If I’m not wrong, the Norwegian goverment prohibited Sámi people to do anything related to Sámi. Search for ‘Norwegianization’. Sámi people weren’t allowed to puchase land anywhere in Norway, everything was taken from them. Many people that were Sámi’s then, converted into Norwegians, because they felt ashamed and miserable for being Sámi, they didn’t dare to be related to Sápmi. This went on for more than 100 years, that practice had roots dated back from the 1700s, but formally began as official goverment policy in the 1800s . This went on till 1980. There are alot of Norwegian people that hates Sámi people for no reason, they were taught to hate on Sámi people from a young age. But Assuming your knowledge on the history of Sápmi Kajsa, (or as Vergil says, "Sampi") you know this. I’m just writing this for others to see :)

The narrator referred to the Sami as nomads and hunter gatherers. That was a shame because the sophistication of their culture seems so much deeper than that.

The terms Nomad and Hunter gatherer do not denote a lack of sophistication. You are placing your own bias on them.
