Came to this video from your crowdie video. Your camera work and quality are excellent and you have a lovely soft voice and of course the Scottish accent is the cherry on the cake. 😊

@@theweelarder4020 My compliments are sincerely meant. I never give compliments when they are not due. You deserve them! Well done and thank you for your reply. The only recipe I can think of at the moment is vegetarian haggis. I had a delicious one once. There are probably several recipes for it since it is something modern. I think a lot of vegetarians would be interested in making it. If you know a good recipe or come across one, you could do a video on it. There must be people of Scottish descent throughout the world who are vegetarian or for health reasons cannot eat meat, who would like to make haggis even if only on Burn's Night, or at Hogmanay. P.s. As you'll know, good neeps and tatties are delicious and paired with a great vegetarian haggis, would really 'hit the spot'.

Its the finely ground oatmeal you need for this recipe. :-) x
@yasdnilknarf1885 Жыл бұрын
Oatmeal is ground fine or rough, but you can grind rolled oats or pressed oats (which are the easiest and cheapest to find) fine or rough in your food processor

What is oatmeal? Is that milled oats? Is not the oats traditionally soaked?
@theweelarder4020 Жыл бұрын
Hello oatmeal is ground oats. I've not seen the oats soaked for making oatcakes but perhaps in some recipes. Thanks Angie x

I have health issues and can't handle fat... what would happen if I left it out or is there something I could sub?
@theweelarder40203 жыл бұрын
Hello thanks for your message, I think without the fat they would be quite dry, if you can tolerate coconut oil you could try that or if you can't manage that then maybe some yoghurt, buttermilk or a little egg? Let me know how you get on :-) Angie x
@CharGC1233 жыл бұрын
@@theweelarder4020 Thanks for the quick reply, but I don't eat animal products and can't digest overt fats, so those are all out. Someone else suggested adding a small mashed potato or white sweet potato and a bit of ground up nuts or seeds like flax, sunflower, hemp.... for a bit of added moisture and some whole food fat with the fiber intact. I'll try and post back if anyone else is interested.
@theweelarder40203 жыл бұрын
@@CharGC123 ah sorry about that :-) You could maybe try a vegan flax egg or banana but the banana would sweeten it up a bit too much prob, basically something that would bind and add moisture would work :-) Keep us posted, take care angie x

What kind of oatmeal are you using?

@@theweelarder4020 Thanks! I have some Hamlyn’s Scottish Oatneal and porridge oats on hand. I realized pretty quick when researching Scottish recipes that “oatmeal” as an ingredient can be any number of different kinds, and sometimes they have different names here in the USA. Lol! By the way, speaking of oatmeal, I would love a skirlie recipe! I have been trying to get it right but I think I must still not be using the right kind of oatmeal... it often comes out still too hard/tough-chewy.
@theweelarder40203 жыл бұрын

@yasdnilknarf1885 Жыл бұрын
@@triskelehearth kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZPYmXSFjMd-js0 Skirlie for ye. Hope ye enjoy it. Simple: just oatmeal, (not rolled oats but you can grind rolled oats to a medium or fine in your processor) shredded onion, fat and seasoning (salt and pepper)
