You did a great job covering the foods of South Dakota, especially the chislic. It's hard to find outside the state. The kolaches can be found at the Tabor Czech Days and a lot of authentic German food including kuchen can be found at Schmeckfest in Freeman. One last thing, churches will have lutefisk dinners held around the holidays. There is a large Scandinavian population in the state. I happen to love lutefisk but I've had it prepared for me by authentic Norwegians who know how to make it the right way.

Ah. Didn't realize kolache, red beer and walleye were popular in South Dakota. I've had lots of walleye but only in the Great Lakes states. Delicious. Madison, WI jumps out. I don't know squat about SD so this was especially interesting, Jocelyn.

Another great place is "Akaska Tavern n Baitshop" in Akaska South Dakota.. did some work around that area and ate there everyday.. I'd recommend the 1/2 pound bacon cheeseburger🍔 definitely a hidden gem here in South Dakota for sure.

Looks like lots of great meat to be had there. Not gonna lie, the state drink doesn't sound very appealing to me with the tomato juice, but I'd try it if I ever visit South Dakota one day, maybe it tastes better than it sounds.

I actually like it. But I don't like beer generally so...??

Those South Dakota look way different than the Texas Kolaches. Here they are softer, more like a roll, and not drizzle. Those do look good, I much admit
@WoltersWorldEats3 жыл бұрын
My friend makes them at Christmas and hers are more like cookies than rolls but, I've see the soft roll types also.

@Mark Finley I've had kolache (meat filled rolls and flat fruit pastries) in Houston as well as the small town of West, Texas - self proclaimed Kolache capital of America. The soft meat/cheese rolls are actually called *_klobasnik_* in the Czech Republic but most people in the U.S. lump them all together as kolache. I didn't realize until I visited Prague. All delicious. 👍
@frednich96033 жыл бұрын
@@tosht2515 yeah, that's a pet peeve of people here in Texas. The ones with meat are NOT kolaches.
