Thanks for all the support! I am getting lots of comments about me not showing the whole knife tho. And I have to agree, this is pretty stupid. After editing for hours and hours I just totally forgot to put a shot of the whole k ife in. I still hope you guys enjoyed the video, I wont re-edit the video tho. If you really want to see the finished product, I would consider you to check out my instagram: Floris Postmes

Ive been a bladesmith for 12 years and I can confidently say your work is stunning. I watch lots of forging videos on youtube, but your skill with the hammer and forging to shape, along with bevel and thicknesses are very admirable. You’re not just roughing out with the hammer and doing all the work with the grinder, you’re really doing the work of the traditional bladesmith. Amazing, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@net-twin-de3 жыл бұрын
As a blacksmith you should know that it's not just about creating a perfect rough shape with the hammer, it is also about generating this basic shape in no more than just 5-7 heating cycles - this is where the true art of the blacksmith lies. Every person can achieve a beautiful basic shape if he sends the steel into the fire often enough. In order to maintain the quality of the steel, however, the steel should not be annealed more than 5-7 times. That was not to be seen in the video so your assessment and the praise is a bit premature. I have my deep doubts that a 17-18 year old will have the experience of forming steel in just 7 cycles, and as specialy in a soooo perfect way as in the video. A real professional blacksmith needs years of practice and experience for the task. Also with the processing of the "Tamahagane" you have already seen what kind of "professionals" are at work here - they just worked the slag with a hammer lol. You can see very clearly here that a couple of young people have scraped together some knowledge via watching KZbin videos and having fun with mimic he job of a real blacksmith, and that's ok, but you should not see the result here as the workd of a real professional.

The whole process was really enjoyable! I particularly love the fact that you smelt your own ore and painstakingly refined the bloom. It’s hypnotic to watch; please post more knife making from scratch. From ore to bloom, from bloom to knife!

Absolutely agree. You could do one project 2 ways. The first is like this video, a short summary. The second is the same project in more detail over a few episodes.

I watch a lot of forging videos. This was really bad ass. Smelting ore to produce your own raw steel! Honestly, I thought you were going to do the entire process without the use of any modern technology. I was “a little” disappointed when you used the belt sander but who the hell am I to say anything? This was one of the most impressive projects I’ve ever seen. Excellent work!!

Very cool for a normal knife. The traditional way to produce a Japanese tanto is a bit more complex. You need a part of soft metal in the center and a harder one in the outside. If you search for a minute it's easy to find. With your blacksmith skills, it will be very easy to do it properly. Not a hater, information provider and a fan. Keep it up, your a great blacksmith.
