Take everything he says with a grain of salt. I just ate a ribeye that I grilled on my Pro 575 and it was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. You don’t need to pay extra for “premium” taste. Just get what you can afford and I guarantee you’ll be happy with it.

I agree with you. The only exception I have found is with lamb chops (not leg Of lamb however), and standing rib roasts. The quality seems to me makes a difference, and I usually go to the butcher Shop for those items.

As far as the video, it's tough to cut through the sales hype, so based upon my budget I just tried to get an understanding of the features i had to have versus nice to have. i think they accomplished that. Can't speak to the Pro first hand, but I can't say enough good things about the Ironwood 885. I had lots of experience grilling, but totally new to using a Smoker. Friends were telling me that i needed to invest in a good Offset to get deep penetrating smoke rings and great smoke flavor. I can tell you first hand using the Super Smoke mode in my cooks far exceeded my expectations and also made my friends eat their words. I also tried a lot of different pellet brands and hardwood types, and in the end, even though they are really good, I did not settle on Traeger pellets as my favorite. It was simple to setup and even simpler to turn out amazing barbeque. Especially, when you follow the expert advice from the pit masters associated with Traeger that loaded their recipes for you to download and control the cook using WiFire. On that note, IMHO Matt Pittman is so easy to follow along with and I'm turning out great barbeque using his techniques and recipes. I love the WiFire App's control from my phone and it is really simple and intuitive. It also untied me from having to closely monitor the cook and the remaining pellets. If you hate using an App, the manual controls work great and are simple to use. Only one serious issue I experienced that hopefully Traeger can address in the future. It was due to a slight power interruption during a cook. I was told the the power went out for only a couple of seconds, but the smoker shut down instead of going back to where it left off. I was away and only realized it because i was not able to reconnect to the Smoker via my app. I returned home and I manually had to restart the cook. Other than that, I absolutely love it!

I do briskets low & slow on my Pro 575, with 18-19 lb. briskets taking 18-20 hrs. I bought a backup UPS for about $50 off Amazon for those long cooks to avoid what happened to you. Might want to consider it, if nothing else it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind. 👍

I own a traeger and I can say that unless you have have smoked with wood the traeger is just fine. It's like the microwave of smoking. Wood smoke is less bitter than sawdust and when it comes to steak charcoal is king. That being said I'll probably get another pellet smoker in the future because all the neighbors have them. Might get a yoder though so I could have hipster bragging rights.

Is there a rotisserie option for any of your grills? And what electrical supply do the grills require? Thanks
@TraegerGrills
@TraegerGrills 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, our grills use about 4 amps for the first few mins then drops to just over 1 amp afterwards, 4 amps equates to about 480 watts, and because they cook with indirect heat like a convection oven, all of the food cooks evenly, therefore eliminating the need to use a rotisserie. 👍

Could of been a much better video if the background electric guitar was not at almost the same volume as his voice. This seems to be a growing trend in so many videos on KZbin. Don’t take this the wrong way, I love music but it’s just to much when you have lower the volume because of the screaming guitars at the beginning of so many video intros and it’s just as bad when it continues into the informational video and it drowns out some of the voice content. @crazedwader4954 3 жыл бұрын
Answer to your last question first: The pellets are the source of smoke and heat. As for the the rest of your questions: Higher set temperature equates to higher rate of use of pellets. Remember if it's cold outside, you'll burn more pellets to maintain a higher heat. Pellet burn rate for only smoke at cool outside temps isn't that much more than when it's hot outside. I've smoked a pork but for ~ 8-9 hours and used about 3/4 of the pellets in the hopper when the outside temp was in the mid 40's (F) with the grill set to ~ 250 (F). I can't think of what piece of meat you would cook at a higher temp for a longer time - so not likely to run out of pellets (assuming you fill the hopper at the start).

@@timmbos In the summer I run P3 or if it is horrifically hot P4. In the spring or fall, I run P1 and in the winter, I run P0. I do leave a blanket over the unit because it cuts down on pellet use and blocks the opening on the top of the door by the hinges. I also never took mine off the skid and use a tie down strap on the handle. When I ratchet down the strap and toss on the blanket, a lot more smoke comes out of the stack. So I'm guessing if the lid seals better that might make the difference and make your experience similar to mine. I run 210-238 from stoke time to hottest. . I too am interested in the Ironwood more than the Timberline. Mostly because if I can cook in a cheap $60 Brinkmann POS with not controls or gauges, I don't think all the toys on the Timberline are needed.

The challenge was steak; If you look on their web site they tell you how to cook one with reverse sear. And they are very good. But I like mine with a little crispness on The outside and rare on the inside. So I got a Lodge raised ridge cast iron pan. I put the pan in the Traeger run it up to 500 for about 15 or so minutes to get it silly hot, and then put my steak in the pan without closing the lid. Very key, don’t shut the lid. I flip it and put my garlic butter spread on. Like I said, takes some time to get used to it but I love it. We cooked every Thanksgiving dish on it except mashed potatoes. I used the prime rib recipe on their web site and I couldn’t believe how good it was; bear in mind it was our Thanksgiving meat entree. But you can’t believe how it bakes pies and stuffing. I often bake cookies on it for my grandkids for Sunday Night dinner. Can’t say enough good about my grill. Go big if you like to cook other dishes on it besides meat. When I cook a12 to 15 lb pork butt at 225 on super smoke I put it on right before bed. And, I make sure my hopper is full; when I get up in the morning I am still in good shape for pellets. Best practice is always have another bag ready to go. Royal pain to restart the auger to get it back going. Did it once, but never again. You must have pellets or it will stop working, that is the heat source. You don’t have to use super smoke, but it won’t burn any more at least to speak of if you do. Supper smoke is just a feature of the grill. But their will always be a hint of a smoke flavor with anything you cook on it. Trust me, it’s not offensive for pizza, cookies, stuffing etc. to have that light smoke taste. Cherry wood for a cherry pie (without super smoke) will take your taste buds to a whole new place. Same with apple wood and apple pies. They are very versatile, I roasted tomatoes from my garden yesterday and made my homemade pasta sauce. The smoke flavor really adds flavor to my sauce. Holler back if you have any more questions. Blessings

I had issues too... Kept getting ”Something came up. The application has cancelled...”. I wound up having to enter in the codes from the grill settings manually instead of using the QR scan. Wi-Fi also doesn't go very far probably because it's in a steel box I normally have outstanding signal with my phone and the grill is only fair.

"sturdier than a brick outhouse", who writes this schlitz. "rolls through any terrain", dang you can go 4 wheelin with these too. "DC power makes these meaner than a metal linebacker", damn that's a mean smoker. All kidding aside I'm going to get an Ironwood despite this cheesy stache and hyped marketing.

Your talking $300 more to upgrade from pro to Ironwood. For cooking with the same pellets, same temps, same app, not much difference for a few extras. There is a reason why the 575 is the most popular model.

Great grills! However these are for the BBQ weekend warrior - it requires no skill. If you want to really learn how to smoke properly, you need to use an offset firebox and learn to control the fire/smoke manually.
@traegs8361
@traegs8361 3 жыл бұрын
Most people have lives and aren’t interested in controlling fire/smoke during a 6-10+ hour cook. Preparation in quality of meat cuts, rubs, sauces is most of the work. I have a couple buddies with offsets and the Traeger blows the doors off them. And realistically adding wood manually isn’t exactly a “skill”. That just what people with offsets think. 😉

What you've done is produce a very expensive electric stove that is meant to be used outdoors. I live in an area where we lose power from time to time so we use our outdoor grills to prepare our food. I have no use for something that needs electricity in order to operate. Make one that uses actual hardwood as a heat source not those crazy pellets. What you've made is a rich man's toy for good weather. Give me something I can throw some chunks of oak in and make my own fire using a match.
