I'm a 69yo Aussie & had the luck to see them live in London in the late 60's. They were incredible & one of the very best concerts that i have ever seen. All the group are amazing, especially Steve Windwood & Jim Capladi. Long live GOOD MUSIC.

Amen to that - I wish I had seen them in the 70-'s but I don't think they came to Boston around then -lots of memories of listening to John BarleyCorn & the low spark of high-heeled boys - I remember how unique the album cover was because iy wasn't square

Chris Wood's grace notes here are so hauntingly elegant & so beautiful. Combined with Steve Winwood's voice, this song brings comfort to our soul.

David Sauer Definitely a killer version of 40,000 Headmen on Welcome to the Canteen. More stretched out than this version. I’m still trying to figure out what Steve mumbles at the end of that version. It’s after the “roaming and rambling” section. Every time I listen I’m blown away that he could sing and play so well but when he talks he sounds like he’ definitely “flying high above the clouds.”

This knocks me out! How central and meaningful this song and Traffic have been in my life. I mean, for those of us in my small community of Heads who had psychedelics as a rite of passage back in the early-to-mid '70's, Traffic was part of the fabric . . . Joints smoked on snowy streets with Winwood's White Soul voice echoing . . . man . . . Too much!

I was 9, my brother was a senior in high school. He had this album (and MANY others) from this era. I remember hearing this song on the radio and being captivated by it. The music from this time period has stayed with me and I still like it today. It was very influential in my life. There was just a wealth of musical talent at that time. Cannot believe it was 40 yrs ago!! Time is flying by too quickly.

There`s a wicked-good version of this on the "Welcome To The Canteen" (live) album from `71, which featured Dave Mason, Rick Grech on Bass, and Rebop on percussion. I saw that lineup in `71 at the old Academy Of Music in NYC. They were outstanding, I really miss those days (six bucks for a concert ticket !)

Great stuff. All these guys, Traffic, Jethro Tull, Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple and the rest were such icons. Pioneers in the true sense, melding jazz, folk, rock and roll, into a new form of music that dominated the charts for over 30 years. Winwoods voice still sounds just as good today by the way. Always liked Jim Capaldi on the drumkit too. Loved the epic masterpieces of music all these bands created. Real music baby....moving, haunting, mesmerizing, and rockin!

I stumbled across this concert VHS in a music store back in the late 80s. Good news is I bought it and watched countless times over the next couple of years. Bad news is when I moved somehow it got mixed in with my roommate’s stuff (who was totally immersed in 1980s alt music and didn’t give two craps about Traffic) and I never saw the tape again.

Someone pointed out to me back then that Traffic always played independent of each other: each member kinda doing his own thing, but also bringing it together in unison. That was so cool, I thought. Watch it here and see - and then compare to Mick & Keith, for example, who seem to perform for each other.
