I assume that 250 kt under 10k speed limit still applies over the ocean?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator Жыл бұрын
This is actually a REALLY GOOD question that I'm going to have to get back to you on! I ASSUME that ICAO has a 250kt speed restriction under 10,000 feet, but I don't really know and I'll have to research this!

FYI that cirrus was NOT clear past the hold short lines before his radio call.. Why do people insist on reporting early, when they are not clear?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator Жыл бұрын
I figured someone would catch that and I considered editing it out. Hopefully it's a teachable/learnable moment for people. Report clear once you're off, not on. You can actually get in trouble if you're caught doing this.

Thanks as always for sharing! If atc doesn’t slow you, when do u reduce from 250? Seems like u stayed fast until the vectored “downwind.” What speed do you usually want to be at when given the vector to intercept LOC? Thanks! (Btw, you nor Citation Max seem to verbalize speeds compared to everything else you say out loud). Im just a sim guy, but your videos help a lot!)
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator Жыл бұрын
So, in the USA there are only a few places that you actually have speed "limits." The obvious one is 250 knots under 10,000 feet. You always see us comply with that one. Most arrival procedures have a mandated speed of some sort (again, usually 250 knots below 10,000) because they will have multiple planes on the arrival and they all want them to be doing the same airspeed. The other places you have speed restrictions are: 1. 200 knots within 4 miles and 2,500 feet of a Class C or D airport, and 2. 200 knots UNDER a class B. This is the one that gets a lot of jet operators because they may operate out of an airport under a class B, and your climb speed is 222 knots in the CJ3+. You need to be aware of that and climb at 200 knots under a Class B (for instance, flying out of RYY (Cobb Country) or PDK (Dekalb Peachtree) underneath the Atlanta Class B. Beyond that, speed is usually your discretion and/or controlled by ATC. As a rule of thumb, once they start vectoring you for the approach I'll start slowing to 230 and 200 knots. Very frequently going into South Florida they will tell you what speed that want anyway. When I'm on a vectored approach a few miles from the FAF, I'll usually be around 180 knots (which is the minimum airspeed in icing conditions other than takeoff or landing in the CJ3+). On approach I'll go to flaps 15 (approach) and slow to 160 knots (flaps landing speed). One dot above, landing gear down, and glideslope intercept, flaps 35 (landing), then slow to my approach speed. Hopefully that answers your question! As for myself and Citation Max not verbalizing speeds, the only time it's required is when it's ATC assigned, and that's probably why you don't hear it much (although I get assigned speeds into Lauderdale A LOT). Thanks for watching and keep the questions coming!

You're supposed to advise ATC if you have an RA, and you should file an ASAP/NASA form.
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator Жыл бұрын
A few other people have said this to me, but it's always been my understanding that you don't need to unless you have to maneuver. So, I looked up the regulations, and this is what it says: FAR 91.123 (C) states: "Each pilot in command who, in an emergency, or in response to a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory, deviates from an ATC clearance or instruction shall notify ATC of that deviation as soon as possible." My clearance was 2,000 feet, heading 180 and I was "maintaining visual." So I never deviated from my clearance. Is there another FAR that you're referring to because I'd really like to know if I'm wrong about it!
@gregdildine99

Is there any formal atc call to admit you to the ADIZ?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator Жыл бұрын
Nope. You just need to have a transponder code (which I got when I picked up my IFR clearance). You also need to file an electronic APIS manifest with Customs. This is basically a list of all passengers and crew on board. You need to do that going both directions (in or out) of the United States. That whole process could be its own video, but it's pretty simple once you've done it a few times.
