On March 30th, 2022, Seattle Fire units responded for heavy smoke showing from a derelict house in the Northgate neighborhood of north Seattle. Crews found a fire in a detached garage, and quickly knocked it down.
No injuries or extension into the house, and no word yet on cause.
We finally hit the trifecta: incident in front of a camera, camera working (!), and scanner site working - it's been a while!
Video highlights:
0:42 - L5 responding in the rain
1:00 - Initial units arriving on scene
4:39 - L9 arrives and "drifts" into it's parking spot
5:00 - B6 arrives and assumes command
7:17 - SPD arrives for traffic control
8:38 - Response downgraded
9:36 - Outro, Fire Marshal (I think, new rig?) on scene

@SeattleTrafficCams
@SeattleTrafficCams 2 жыл бұрын
These are all live, more or less. There's an alternate site that starts recording when you open the camera and saves about 3-5 minutes at a time, but you still have to screen record to get the videos. (seattle-traffic-cams.glitch.me/#CMR-0257). The city itself doesn't archive any of the traffic camera footage.

in regards to that ladder truck, even though I know what would happen if the driver at the back of that ladder accidently turned the steering wheel the wrong way when the truck would go into a turn, it would be interesting Just to see what would happen, the back end of the truck would start to tip over on its side, right, the taking the front end of it with it, correct????

Lots of hustle here, and I love the use of wheel jocks. Also, kudos to the firefighter who resisted the temptation to fire-ax the windshield of the doofus who wanted to drive through their fire scene.

Two minutes in and someone is reaching for a chainsaw. Are American firefighters trained in the use of a chainsaw before they are trained in actually putting water on a fire? The last time I saw a UK firefighter use a chainsaw was to clear a tree blown over during a storm from a car to check no person's trapped.
@eriksand9262
@eriksand9262 2 жыл бұрын
Do you not see the hose lines already being stretched from the engine before the truckie grabs a chainsaw off the truck. Also, Seattle trucks don't carry hoses. So that fire fighter wouldn't ever grab a hose line off that ladder truck. 🤔
@jamesscott2894
@jamesscott2894 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the Dept and the specifics of the situation. The Engines are focused on pulling the hoselines for fire attack, while the Ladders (since this was a single story, not much need for all the aerials) focus on things like Forcible Entry, Ventilation, Search, etc. The chainsaw is very useful for Ventilation (and if you have a Ladder and Engine on scene same time, you can def have a FF grabbing chainsaw to set up for Vent while hose is being stretched so you can do a coordinated attack, both at the same time) Or the saw could be used to force entry to gain access for the hose team(s) in the first place

I agree with the truck or ladder front door yes but only if you can use them if not get them out of the way and let the engine front door alot more useful here than that useless tiller truck is !!!! And hen you send more ladders !!! I think tillers are useless to begin with !! If a ladder or a truck doesn't have a pump it's useless !!!

It may seem like an overkill but it's quite typical here to have a full response for a "fire in the building call". They don't know what the situation is until they arrive on scene, once they arrive on scene, they will start canceling units that are not needed or bring in another alarm if needed. Personally, I like this approach. What you don't want is only send out 1 or 2 trucks and realize the fire is out of control when you arrive and have to call for more units when you could of had the units there already.

How is that a waste? They have the resources and it's better to send out multiple trucks where each company has it's own roles. Would you rather they just send out one truck and have those 4 firefighters do everything from putting out the fire, RIT to search / vent etc? When your house is on fire you will appreciate the "waste of equipment and manpower"
@jamesweir2943

@@pdxmark77 what you describe with the one-truck scenario is exactly how it should be done. if more equipment is needed, call for it.
@eriksand9262
@eriksand9262 2 жыл бұрын
How is it a waste. Those firefighters get paid whether they are at the station or on a call. The service and fuel for the apparatuses are already figured into the budget. And your example of "use one truck. If more are needed call for them" is a stupid way of thinking. Yeah let's send one truck, then if they need additional man power let's have to wait an extra 10-15min for them to show up.
@CPR12345

@@eriksand9262 I agree with everything you said, except for the response time. It does not take a big city like Seattle 10-15 minutes to respond to an incident. I can guarantee that.
