Can't go wrong with Traffic. A singular group thanks to Winwood, Capaldi, and Wood (and sometimes Mason). I loved them so much at age 15 I painted their "Traffic signal" on my bedroom wall in glow-in-the-dark black light paint! You love The Moodies and you love Traffic -- that means you are a brilliant man with impeccable taste!

It seems as Steve Winwood is also playing the bass pedals with his feet at the organ, piano, vocals, composing, arrangement, groove, soul, and magnificent spirit. That’s all he did.

Yes! One of my top favorites! It's Steve playing bass. And the organ and piano, too. 😁 And vocals as well 😁😁 PS - you made my year with that reaction.

Steve Winwood played organ, piano, bass, percussion (and his usual vocals) on this album. Chris Wood on all woodwinds; flute, sax, etc.

Traffic was a great English rock band who formed in 1967. They began as a psychedelic rock group & used keyboards, like the Mellotron & harpsichord, sitar, & various reed instruments. Traffic's singer, keyboardist & guitarist Steve Winwood was the lead singer for the Spencer Davis Group when he was only 14 & he was also in Blind Faith. Some of Traffic's early hits were "Paper Sun", "Hole In My Shoe", "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush", "Dear Mr. Fantasy", "Feelin' Alright" etc.

Great pick, Greybeard. That album, John Barleycorn Must Die, is one of the greatest LPs released in that era of British rock. Rick Grech is the bass player. He was in Blind Faith later on with Eric Clapton, Steve, and Ginger Baker. He also plays violin! Thanks for the reaction Harri.

Grech did not join Traffic until “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys”- it was Winwood, Capaldi and Wood-a trio on John Barleycorn. A truly great, underrated tune!

John Barley Corn must Die, was the 4th studio album, released by Traffic. Steve Winwood's vocals easily recognizable. The instruments are fabulous. Piano, drums, guitars, organ, keyboards, flute are all spectacular. Great reaction Harri. You're so funny. Thanks Harri and Greybeard. Great memory. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Best Traffic song among many. Bought the vinyl when it first hit the market and have been grooving to this song ever since. I believe they were just a 3-man band for that album--drums, bass and keyboards with Winwood's voice. Amazing sound. Could rock out a jazz club with that song. For some reason this song has not been widely celebrated for its greatness, but it should be. The instrumental section of the song is priceless. What an incredible groove.

As "rock" groups go from that era Traffic was at the very top along with the Allmans at their peak. Winwood was one of the greatest musicians of our generation and he turned out many gems like this one. I believe the bass was keyboard, they didn't have a bass player per se, just Winwood on keys, Chris Wood flute and sax, and Jim Capaldi on drums. Their live Welcome to the Canteen is a must listen. Especially Dear Mr Fantasy, it will send your heart soaring. It had Rick Grech on bass and Jim Gordon on drums along with Capaldi and "Reebob" Kwaku Baah. And Dave Mason, an original Trafficker

Someone correct me (with citations) if I’m wrong, but the “bass” we’re hearing on this track is actually coming from the organ by way of Winwood using the foot pedals. Sounds unconventional, but The Doors were doing the same thing at the time.

You should ck out Traffic's jammin hit Feeling Alright. Which was written by then band member Dave Mason 1969. Alot of artists have spun their versions of the hit. Joe Cocker, and the band Badfinger to name a few. A great song who ever covers it! But theres nothing like the original by Traffic tho! 😎
