Interesting to see how you guys do it down south, I’m from Colorado and am a level 1 signal tech and we usually mount the heads and have the wire out the arm before we fly the arms, our signal heads are center of the lane so it helps with placement

We drill a hole in the back of the arm about 15 inches from the head and pull the wire through that. Then leave a small loop from the arm to the bottom of the head and from there, up into the terminals. It eliminates the step of shoving the wires into the signal bracket. We don't leave the wire nearly as exposed either. We only strip back about 6 inches inside the head. Also, we hang the U-bolts on one side first. It makes it 10 times easier then trying to screw with them with only one hand available. If you back the nut off as far as possible, you can push the bolt back, bring it around the signal bracket, and shovel it back into the astro bracket.

I wish they would let us strip the wire back all the way to the astro brac. It's a spec here to have 6" of the outer jacket where you terminate inside the signal head

I've noticed a .lot of new signals with the yellow band on the back plate. Other than those being cheap dial light fixtures is there a reason your lights don't have that band?

New signal heads are mandated by the MUTCD to have reflective back plates with the reflective tape

I've got a question, when you're a pedestrian and you push that little button that says push to walk. Does it really do anything?

Yes. Most people don't think they actually do anything. At an intersection with pedestrian signals you can see them work better. The button puts a "call" into the controller for the intersection to give specific time for people to cross. Depending on how it's specified, some intersections will not show "Walk" until you press that button. That gives you the right of way as a pedestrian. Whether or not the intersection has pedestrian signals, pushing the button will guarantee a specific amount of time for you to cross. If you have a "Push for green" with no ped signal it makes it so you can cross with non conflicting traffic. Think of 2 am when traffic is very light and you want to cross. If no cars come then the light won't change for you to cross safely, unless you push that button. (Hope this helps)
