Im 16 and i see all the other deaths, but van halens is the only one i lived through. I was doing homework and i got a notification on my phone and it announced his death. I was shocked even though i never lived in the 80s. I blasted van halen for the rest of the day. Rip

EVH's death really caught me off guard, even though I knew he was not doing well and the band was pretty much finished before the news. I had gotten further into his work and became a fan just one year before. Definitely one of the saddest moments in music history. All of a sudden we just lost the guy who did the most for electric guitar. He donating part of his collection to public schools will always be my fondest memory of him.
