Trail Boss: La Milagrosa Tucson, AZ

Season 2: Episode 3
This is my most challenging video to date! Follow me as I start at Molino Basin, ride up the 1 mile Hike a Bike and down the Bellota section of the AZT. At about the 3.5 mile mark La Milagrosa starts and its an EPIC RIDE!!

I know, this was over a year ago, but, holy crap. I am pretty sure that there are mathematical equations proving that a bicycle cannot be ridden on these trails, and yet, you did!!! Your skills and fitness levels are way above world class!!! Amazing display of technique and intestinal fortitude!!! Brutal is the main word that comes to mind. Even the down hills were sudden death with just one instance of a tiny mistake! Damnit man, you are a monster! Trail Boss for sure. But Trail Monster also applies!!!

The hardest for me as well John, Tuscon is seriously one of the toughest places I have ever ridden. The plant life is so unrelenting...don't cut a single corner or the corner will cut you! Lets were just torched with so many scratches everytime I got out and rode..except for Star Island or whatever the XC trail there was.

Awesome video Jeff! I rode that trail about 10 years ago and this really took me back. I would call La Milagrosa the "longest" short ride I've ever done." The technicality barely ever lets up. I was on an older 26er with only about 120 mm of poor travel at both ends, and that trail beat the sh$$ out of me, haha!

Got caught in the dark and had to do this at night. 2.5 hours at night, not my smartest move. All those techy sections were impossible for me so tonnnsss of walking. Thanks for making this awesome video.

Great riding Jeff, way above my pay grade, I would have been walking some of that for sure. Being from the NE I love the desert as its just so much different than what I am used to. Did some riding in Az. and was warned about the cactus, that said things happen. You have great skills and you do inspire me to look at the trails differently and work on my skills. Take care

Jeff, Thanks for the kind response on the Alafia trail! I got really excited when your Trail Boss review came up with Milagrosa having ridden it about 4 years ago while doing some training at Davis Monthan AFB there in Tuscon! I was lucky enough to link up with a local trail ripper to take me out onto Milagrosa and some of the other sections of the AT! Watching your footage brought back so many things I loved and hated about riding there in S. AZ....trails are so rugged, and required so much work to ride, and it seems like every plant out there is bladed or has a means to cut/stick in you! Did you get a chance to sign the Tequila Tree? I was able to ride nearly everything, but despite my best efforts, I could not get up the climb on the other side of the creek bed.....I tried several times!!! I would definitely say that its my trial skills that are lacking, but it was awesome watching a pro actually clear it! Thanks for the video! Loved reliving that trail through your video!
