@@apollotheshire i love following you & Apollo ❤️❤️ ur family & other horses too, but especially Apollo because that’s the type of animals i take, the ones in the worst shape, abused, maybe not as pretty (although Apollo is gorgeous now!). i have a little Jack Russell that as a 5lb puppy was being kicked by a man with steel toe boots!! 😡😡🤬🤬 what a POS! she had so many fleas it looked like her spots were crawling & she had worms longer than her - no exaggeration!!! i didn’t want a terrier but i sure as hell wasn’t sending her back there!!! she was starving, shaking, in horrible shape & 5m old, 5 lbs. 😭💔 i took her to the vet the next morning & 24 hours later she looked like a new dog!!! no fleas, no worms, i free fed her & she basically velcro’d herself to me within hours. she’s turned out to be the best dog i’ve had; as far as listening, good with cats, babies, everyone. she goes everywhere with me. she’s 13.5 now & still thriving. she had bladder stones at 9 where her bladder almost ruptured but i rushed her to an emergency vet at 3am & saved her life - $5k later, but she’s worth it ❤️❤️😍 she is on rx food but hasn’t had any issues & her blood work & xray show perfect health!! i have NO regrets. i would have never thought of getting a Jack Russell, but she’s the runt & so grateful - which is the reward with abused animals. they return the love & gratitude in a way people never do… or quickly forget. i felt like Apollo was thinking “oh no! what is he going to do? leave me alone out here??” but you kept showing love & encouraging him; Little Miss was a great comfort & i’m sure the family being together reassured him that he would be okay. ❤️❤️ i’m still betting he was happy to get back into the trailer lol 😂 but next time he will look forward to it & enjoy it more. i hate what’s people do to animals; thank God for people like us that rescue them & bring them to their full glory 😁🤗❤️

Funny how the signs are freaking him out. I once was on a group ride riding a friend's horse named Rocky. We were out in the country, on streets and dirt roads. We came up to a stop sign, and the word STOP was painted on the road. My horse Rocky saw it as we came to it and did a flat out stop, with legs kind of splayed. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I swear he could read !!! That was decades ago and I still laugh at that one.

Gorgeous, Apollo is a star. Watching this a year later, and by now the daughter wouldn't be able to ride Little Miss anymore, even in this vid you can see she's outgrown the pony. I had a friend who kept bringing her stirrups shorter and shorter in denial, eventually had to admit (as her knees nearly hit her chin), she needed a new larger ride. Part of growing up, but so sad.

@@apollotheshire keep thinking about hard it must be to retrain a horse/ animal that has obviously suffered so much abuse or neglect. Oh what a beautiful way to start my day! I am two hours outside Cape Town in similar country - beautiful mountains and glorious sunsets. I gasp at the rotation of your hip when mounting Apollo. Three cheers for Ireland on Little Miss, with a stunning mane to match your wife’s lovely hair. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your ride.

@@apollotheshire Good morning from Robertson, SA. Since you know the work of Stanhope Forbes, you will surely be familiar with that of (Sir) Alfred Munnings, renowned for his equine art, and also clouds (I call him my cloud man). What you may not be so familiar with is the history attached to one of his most famous portraits, “Merrylegs”. Munnings was a somewhat raffish character, even by the standards of the Newlyn group at Lamorna, Cornwall. A rather genteel young lady, Florence Carter-Wood, went to Lamorna and entered the enchanted circle. A beautiful portrait of her was executed by the husband of Laura Knight (later Dame), a somewhat retiring man who worked from his studio while Laura clambered around the coves of Lamorna. Munnings, always first at the starter’s pistol, insinuated himself into Florence’s life. “Merrylegs” (which refers to the horse, not Florence) is a deeply significant picture, currently owned by family of Major Gilbert Evans, an important figure in the lives of both Florence and Munnings. There is a most excellent book, “Summer in February” by Jonathan Smith, who renders the story with great skill and sensitivity. It is fiction based four square on facts, and captures superbly the Englishness of the era, the countryside and the collision of convention and art. Merrylegs, with Florence mounted side saddle, features on the dust jacket of my treasured copy. Happy reading. 👏🐎📚👏

It looked like a lovely ride. Just one little niggle though, this is not a criticism - however, it would have been better for the pony, for your daughter to stand in the stirrups when the pony was doing a number one. That way, the pony would not have any weight on its back thereby, releasing any tension on the bladder. 😁
