Brilliant video! I LOVE that you started off with the CORRECT way to do it. Most golf videos start off with 8 minutes of what amateurs to WRONG and 1 minute of the correct way. This was super helpful and I love the added graphics.

Your drills and explanation of the sequencing of the downswing with the right shoulder has me excited to try this tomorrow. I have tried many things in the past so I will throw caution into the wind since I may not be able to successfully implement this BUT somehow I have a good feeling about doing this tomorrow.

@@TruGolfAcademy A work in progress, golf swing is like a jigsaw puzzle. Gotta assemble the pieces, some take longer than others lol. Got some buddies at 2nd Swing Golf recently, most of them can hit it 300 yards. I’m a senior so that ain’t gonna happen but they also have helped me with my swing along with youtube videos.

This is an excellent video. I have been working a lot on this movement recently. My divots always seem to point left of the target. I feel that the start of the downswing my right shoulder moves forward rather than down. I been working with a feel that I’m keeping the right shoulder back, and this works. But I’m concerned that I will tend to stop turning through impact and block out to the right. I will work on this down and round feeling. Thank you

Just had an epiphany. Been hitting foam balls into a wall and they were all hitting the wall and bouncing off to the left with fade spin. Now I can get the ball to hit the wall and bounce off to the right with draw spin. I can even get it to bounce either way on command now. Thank you so much.

This has cured my "flipitis". From the top, I focus on driving the club head thru the ball with my right shoulder. This has created more lag and forced me to continue turning aggressively thru the shot which in turn has left my wrists in a support posture as opposed to being actively flipping. So much more compression, power, and consistent contact. THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!

Just discovered this great video thanks. There are dozens of youtube video's dealing with coming over the top. Solutions often requiring tour pro athleticism/timing and lots of practice. For the average club golfer this is the best - you've found your niche.

I recently discovered this piece of downswing wisdom and have worked on it. My backswing can be good with good results but not consistent results. The problem was the downswing. The result hitting behind the ball on the bad shots [even though backswing same or so it seems]. Then I heard about the shoulder getting nearer to the ball and target on the downswing as you describe. That also brings my trail leg and body toward target. Some good results so far but work in progress. Your video confirms Im on the right path (no pun intended!!) Thanks.

Cooped up at home making swing in my living room. Having a thought of having a string attached from my lead hip to my trail shoulder in the downswing. Hope it works in the driving range. Video showed my shoulders were too leveled. Thanks for your great videos.

Always enjoy and learn from your videos John! I try to pay close attention to what my right shoulder is doing in the downswing. I know instantly when it and my right elbow fly out and not down as you suggested, This leads to all kinds of problems. I'll definitely try for the "down and around" move from now on!

Literally my only swing thought. In transition, trail shoulder down to start the downswing then let it rip.

I’m going to try this listening to Joan Armatrading, down to the ground, down to the ground. The song is down to zero. This will really help me as my balance is always off. Butt back and shoulder down , definitely going to help me to a balanced finish. Thanks Jon

I have a question. Isn't the shoulder movement in the downswing primarily a consequence of the shifting of the pelvis and lower body? I seem to get a better swing not consciously swinging with the shoulders. Incidentally I like your background bird life.
@TruGolfAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, you maybe fine just focusing on lower body. It would vary on the golfer. I still see good lower half actions and bad upper half. Of course not every video is relevant for all 👍🏻

Dropping my right shoulder makes me duff my irons and shank my wedges......I need to keep mine higher to make decent contact but then I risk pulling shots but certainly better than a shank or fat
@TruGolfAcademy2 жыл бұрын
It won’t be the trail shoulder alone. The trail side has to move down and under as the lead side moves up otherwise you would miss the ball all together. Video and look for the real reason behind the heavy and heel strikes 👍🏻
