Trail Tested is BACK! Let’s take the HOKA Torrent 3 and Nnormal Tomir out for some miles!

Yes!!!! Excite.

Best use case for Tomir is bad conditions- wet rock, root or log, or plain mud. That outsole sticks like glue to it all. Just did a quick burst up Sanitas in boulder and had absolute confidence up and down. Woot woot!

Loved your trail tested featuring both shoes! I have run exclusively in the Hoka Torrent since about 2018. I just purchased a pair of the NNormal Tomir and had the same reaction as you did! Every run since I've grown to like them even more! Great shoe, and I agree, they'll give the Torrent a run for their money! Keep up the great work!

I have been very interested in hearing about the Tomir so thanks for the initial review - will be very interested to see how it performs over time

Love this review format! The only change is the EDM music in the background. It’s nice just to hear the sounds of the forest!

I love these trail tested reviews! And I love the visual of seeing the trail terrain you’re testing on. And it reinforced to me that I want to vacation in Washington and explore more trails to run on.

I know very little about trail running shoes so I've started watching all of your shoe reviews. Love this format of review. The only shoe I've put any decent amount of miles on are my Vibram V-Trains and the outsoles are still perfect on them. I didn't realize they made them for other brands. Great review, thanks for the upload!
@TheGingerRunner Жыл бұрын
Yeah Vibram sells their product to a bunch of brands - it’s awesome

Thanks for this! I might have to get the Tomir. Had an incredible run in the kjerag this am. PR’d on on one of my local trail loops. So light and eats tech trail for breakfast. Tomir looks like it might be my Torrent 3 possibly. (I’m a huge torrent 2 fan….3’s didn’t click with me…neither did the catamounts either sadly)

Even not big changes for Torrent 3, I really like the v2 so I would not hesitate to get v3 later on. And for the Tomir, another candidate that has got very good reviews, all purpose shoe for the everyday runner, training or even racing. It wold be interesting to see how long they can last, of course, depending the terrain you use them in. By the way, also looks good that Brooks jacket. Cheers!

Really curious about durability changes on these... wrecked my T2s within 80km on somewhat rocky trails (ibiza, Spain). Torn off complete lugs and pieces of rubber...

This encourages me to spend more time running Tiger Mountain, so I can see how this is being filmed :) At first I thought it was a chase person, then a drone, then a really tall person... I may never know unless I cross paths with Ethan. I'm secretly hoping it's Johnny 5, following him on the trail.

Just do not miss the last lace hole, they are very useful for holding your heel locked. You may know the right way to use it.

I ordered the Nnormal Tomir based on the philosophy behind the company. It just has me excited. I got the shoes a week and a half ago. I wore them for the first time on a 30k (18.5 miles) trail race two days later. I never felt uncomfortable and the shoes are just fun. I think you captured that well. The shoes aren't masters of anything, except possible grip. They do everything though. They aren't light, but not heavy either. They aren't plush, but not harsh either. They drain water well. The Tomir just sits in that comfortable niche of a shoe that can do everything acceptably well which makes it an awesome shoe for mid-pack runners like most of us are. The grip in these is exceptional. I did my trail race in slippery, muddy conditions. I don't think I've felt as secure descending soft, mushy mud down a significant hill before. I currently have these pegged as my go-to shoes for the ultra-running season. I really feel these shoes are going to be able to cover everything I'm going to be throwing at the and I'll feel comfortable and secure while doing it.

Nice! Great thoughts! I love their philosophy as well and the kjerag is amazing. Yeah, it’s prob not for everyone or everyday running but hot dam it was fun this am on tech trail. Tomir might be the everyday for me. I can’t do squishy mushy shoes that seems to be the norm and trend right now.
@sandstromj Жыл бұрын
I’ve got the Kjerag also, and like them, now you got me interested of the Tomir also.

Love trail tested!! For me the torrent is one of the best values out there for a wide variety of running over a great range of terrain. I’ve taken them to the marathon distance multiple times and even done faster 5 k trail races.

I wish the wide fit option was universal for Hoka shoes. They seem to do it in some but not others and often they don't do it in some of their better models!
@melissafeldhaus4424 Жыл бұрын
Same! Love the width in the speedgoats

I use wide fit speedgoats but the Torrent fit perfectly 🤷♂️

I love the grip of the Torrent 2! Makes you feel super safe. I just wish they had a bit more cushioning. Wonder what could be a good substitute to them🤔

I loved so much v2 that I got a 2nd pair, currently in my rotation along my Salomon UltraGlide. I anticipate that the changes in Torrent v3 is mostly about the upper and toe protection. Lugs were great and also a fast shoe for some road sections.

Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra! Great lockdown and moderate lugs with nice boost rebound from the midsole.

From what I've seen, people have had durability issues already with the Torrent 3's. Something to do with the overlay material. So I'm gonna stick with the Torrent 2's, which I love. As for the Tomir, I'd love to try them but there's a huge import tax to the UK!

Does this need to be sized down just like the kjerag? I had to go down a full size 10.5 to 9.5
@LarsArneBrekken Жыл бұрын
Yes, I am usually a 10 (sometimes 10.5), but the Tomir 9.5 fits me perfectly
@sandstromj Жыл бұрын
I was kind of surprised that you compare it to the Torrent. Based on Tomir looks I would say it’s more towards a Speedgoat, or am I wrong?
@fcp1893 Жыл бұрын
Tomir are good for ultra runs (100km) ?

I feel compelled to let my fellow big boy runners know that the Nnormal max out at a men's US 12, and they run small. So, there's that.
@colinyoutubber6339 Жыл бұрын
Does the Tomir offer enough comfort/cushion to do a 50K or 50 mile race? You didn’t really mention the ideal distances for it. Asking as a mid-pack runner. (And thanks for doing this, really liking the format.)
@htimsorea Жыл бұрын
How about Tomir sizing? Thx
@TheGingerRunner Жыл бұрын
True to size for me, 11 in other brands was an 11 for me in nnormal
@gvidokalninsrun5372 Жыл бұрын
@@TheGingerRunner Heyy, thanks for the funnn review, as always! I also have a q about sizing. I have 11US for Salomon, and Hoka shoes which are 29.5CM but on the NNormal website, it states that size 11 US is 29cm. I want to order them but I'm not convinced about the size and I don't like sending shoes back and forth. Would you recommend going with size 11 US as usual? Thanks, with love from Spain!
