Loyd, thanks for this review. I have 50 miles on my Tomir 2.0s and they are a big improvement over the respectable 1.0, which I used in the last 66 miles of a 200-mile ultra in November 2022. In both cases, it helped to swap out the footbeds and insert the Inov-8 Boomerang insoles as the midsole is a bit firm for me. However, the 2.0 is well worth buying even without the Boomerangs. It is a great all-arounder. More than that, the design keeps your foot cradled low in the platform for outstanding control in difficult technical terrain here in the Colorado Rockies. Definitely a welcome addition to my rotation!

Thanks for your detailed comment. I tried the kjerag and tomir 1.0 yesterday but whilst definitely preferring the tomir in terms of speed and midsole, I felt the shoe was too cumbersome for technical descents. How does the 2.0 compare, is it any lighter/more nimble
@rmsrmsrmsrms

Did you size up or TTS? For the Kjerag I had to size down 1/2 (so same size as in S-Lab Genesis)

@@lisoushealthfoodandfitness I'm not Troy but if Tomir 1.0 felt cumbersome the 2.0 will. They got a little heavier, midsole gained bounce over the 1.0 though. I use Tomir for slower runs and Kjerag for all my races so far

@@rmsrmsrmsrms Tomir 2.0 is true to size. I wouldn’t size up but it lower-volume than the 1.0.

@@lisoushealthfoodandfitness same platform and weight but with slightly more midsole foam, and of course the foam is better. But the Kjerag is more nimble and, ironically, I think more comfortable on technical terrain. Keep in mind that I dislike the Speedgoat because to me it’s overbuilt. The Tomir 2.0 is more nimble than the Speedgoat, but firmer. Personally my dream is a Kjerag with about 5 mm of additional foam underneath.

I absolutely adore my Tomir 1.0. Mine have over 800k on them and they are doing exceptionally well. It's not an exciting shoe, but it offers an immense amount of grip in a no-nonsense and comfortable way. My Nnormals took about 50k to start softening up. The materials used really need some abuse but once the shoe is broken in it's just fantastic.

Good review Lloyd! I just picked up my 1st pair and took them straight out for go at the George Fisher Espresso Round in the Lakes. After 2 years in the Xodus Ultra I wasn't sure I would like anything as much. I much prefer them...at least at 13 miles. The sole is arguably the best I've ever run in. Not too gnarly for the road transitions, but very good on those Lake District Mountains scrambles and bogs. I did have the opposite impression on the sizing though. I usually go for 10's in the Xodus Ultra, but sized down to 9.5 in these. In fact I may even go down a further 1/2 size as i had some movement on the very steep descents. Overall, very impressed.

My tomir 1.0 are still going strong at about 1000kms. I have taken them through everything. They look tattered but I estimate they have another 200km in them. I wouldn’t use them on anything longer than 40-50k anymore. And that only on soggy and soft conditions.

i have recently started running in these. Took a long time to find a new trail shoe that i felt comfy in and was rock solid on trails. Trail is my main discipline and peaks and lakes are my playground. It was either these or VJ Maxx 2. My previous trainers were speedgoat 4's and 5's although the 5's were not very good for me. I like to get around 350-400 miles from a pair (heavy runner 95+kg). So far they have been excellent. A freind has the Tamir 1 and is over 1000km in them.

Nice one mate. Similar thoughts myself. I prefer the fit of the Tomir 1.0 for my foot shape as it is wider in the midfoot. The traction from the Vibram Litebase carries over well from the 1 to the 2 and the upper fabric is very similar. No issues myself on length, but that is personal. With regards to the firm cushioning, I think it suits a technical 50k race. The shoes performs well in these conditions, but for a longer effort, I think softer cushioning is needed.

Interesting that you say they feel slightly small. I have only ever seen people say to size them down half a size, or go down if you're between sizes. I got mine a few days ago and after two runs, I found that to be spot on for myself too. I've seen others say they do take a while for the foam to settle in.

Kjerag needs 1) a fully-gusseted tongue, 2) widening of the upper across the metatarsal heads (any swelling leads to compression of the joints and pain)

Interesting review Loyd, thank you. This is the shoe I absolutely wanted to love but I just tried it on vs. the La Sportiva Prodigio and ended up going for the latter. They felt a little clunky and even in the shop I seemed to move around in the shoe a lot, although the length was fine. Seemed to slip forward on the incline testing thing they have in hiking shops, if you know what I mean. Disappointed as I do think that outsole is the best on the market right now for a does everything option in the UK - something about the lug pattern and the Megagrip Litebase seems to just be in the sweet spot. Maybe I'll wait for them to drop in price and give them another go.

I used the 1.0 for Canyons 100 mile and had to retie them multiple times. Love the fit, (for the 1.0 I sized down 1/2) Midsole isn't super cushy. I went with your fav the xodus ultra for Cool Moon 100 and they were perfect for babying my Achilles.

Thanks Loyd, for the great review. I've just had a bad experience with Salomon Ultra-glide 2, after just 5 months they're completely trashed, outsole lugs worn and upper is tearing from the midsole, Salomon is refunding the purchase price. I've watched both your Inov-8 Trailfly and Tomir 2.0 reviews, I'm inclining towards the Trailfly, especially after seeing Liga run the CCC in a pair. After running in both, what would be your call? Outsole durability is key for me, as the trails around Prague are often hard packed or rocky.

I personally call the Tomir (1.0) a tractor and the Kjerag (1.0) a Ferrari - both with good traction. I’ve heard that the shoelaces have been improved in v2 as they are really slippery in v1. I went half-size down in my Kjerag(s) and true to size in Tomir although probably could manage with half size down with those also. I really need to get my hands on a pair of Tomir v2

I'm puzzled. I've gone through 4 pairs of the original and this v2.0 is more refined in many ways. The mid sole of the v2.0 doesn't feel hard to me at all (where as some of your past favorites felt hard to me, like the Exodus) & I've never had any issues with the laces.. Also having the wrong size is hardly the fault of the shoe, yet you kept going on about it. I love the build ethos/quality, something NNormal should be commended for.. I must admit, I've lost some confidence in your reviews after watching this. Your observations don't make any sense to me.
@Run4Adventure
@Run4Adventure 6 ай бұрын
I’m not sure why you’ve lost confidence in my reviews after this video? Obviously running shoes are super personal to each individual and your experience of a shoe can be different to mine. I actually said in the review that the shoe being the wrong size for me was not a shoe issue, I said those exact words in the video?Unfortunately I did have an issue with the laces working loose and I had to stop and re-tie them, that’s just what happened so I mentioned it in the review. As far as the midsole cushioning goes, I’ve had a lot of messages from other viewers saying that they found them quite firm as well, so it’s definitely not just me. Like I also mentioned in the video, they might just need to bed in and soften up! What I am concerned about is the fact I’ve had several viewers reaching out and complaining about the durability of the original TOMIR. They’ve all had the same issue with the midsole collapsing on the medial side and they’ve even sent me pictures and they didn’t look good? If you’ve gone through 4 pairs of the original TOMIR, how many miles have you got out of each pair?
