How to check, drain, and fill the rear differential fluid in the Trailblazers/Envoys and their cousins. I also show an alternative fluid pump that is more commonly available then the one shown in the front diff and transfer case fluid videos.
When doing the drain and fill, always remove the fill plug before the drain plug.
Fluid type: synthetic 75w90 (GM P/N 12378261, meeting GM Specification 9986115)
Recommended service interval: 75-100K miles
Capacity: 2.5 quarts
I used the following parts/ tools:
transfer tube
drain pan
white ziptie
3/8" ratchet
6 point 13mm socket (cover pull)
1/2" drive ratchet (cover pull)
2002-2005 torque specs (courtesy of Wyle):
Rear differential fill plug: 24 ft-lbs
Rear differential drain plug (if there): 35 ft-lbs
Rear differential cover (8.0" axle): 20 ft-lbs
