Trailblazer SS AWD vs RWD - Which is Better?

Welcome back to the channel and thanks for checking out this video! In this video I discuss the pros and cons of AWD vs RWD in the TBSS. I recently converted my SS to RWD and I wanted to give my input on the swap and which one I think is better. I converted my 04 Buick Rainier 5.3 from all-wheel drive to rear wheel drive only and it drives so much better. You can really tell the difference just in the steering at slow speeds. (2004 GTO) 4l60e 2wd trans w a shorter driveshaft & popped the front axles out. I left the differential in because I didn't want to mess with it and the oil pan at this time.

The "knocking sound" is coming from the road. It's a concrete road and because of the cuts in the concrete it makes that sound. It's really annoying to drive on too.

I have a 08tbss 1ss rwd big cam headers exhaust dyno 409rwhp I launch at 2,000rpm those 4.10 gears makes it take off like a bat out of hell

It has always amazed me why people would buy a TBSS thinking it's a good option to make a hot rod. It weights over 5 thousand pounds, it has a major flaw with oil starvation with the oil pickup location and poor pan baffle design and the transmission sucks. Don't get me wrong TBSSs are excellent quick grocery getters but they take way too much money to reduce the ET. I base my opinion on my own ownership of a mint all original (except for lowering it properly) white '07 TBSS series 3 RWD that I've had for over ten years. I love my truck and wanted one when they were first produced in 2006 but having an ex wife that believed I shouldn't be allowed to keep my income it took me a few years to save up and pay cash for mine. Anyway people interested in getting a TBSS should consider the pros and cons with the various options they were manufactured with, i.e., series 1 or series 3, only five colors produced (colors are not published but most say the dark blue is the rarest) not to mention average the 13 miles per gallon average. Lastly, just a FYI for you subscribers interested there were a little over 26,400 produced from 2006 to 2009 with 2007 having the most produced at over 10k and 2009 with the least a 610.

why would you be amazed at that you know how many people have made legit power out of these trucks just watch them on youtube there are SEVERAL videos i'm pretty sure they have taken into acct all of your pros and cons, every car has pros and cons, not to mention the oil starvation issue is not very hard to remedy so whatever

@@therealjackieheezy you're right, "so whatever." My point as an owner of an SS, and who's owned over a hundred vehicles in my life, there are better options. You want one, fine, buy one and make it go fast. Anyway it was just my opinion and even though you don't agree with it doesn't mean yours is better. It's a fckn opinion DA.

@@r.n.6515 Mmm.. I see where you coming from. But I think this truck is for families that want something fun. My kids are outgrowing the rear seats in my Camaro. But I still want something fun, I'm also getting older so I want it to be comfortable to. Sure there's faster vehicles out there like a trackhawk or even the kia EV6. I was thinking about a Tahoe with the 6.0 but I'm still doing research. Btw is adding 3rd rows to a Ss a simple task? I know the other models has a 3rd row option.

Where did you get the selective transfer case for ur TBSS?

Prob used a NP261 transfer case. It’s the manual transfer case with the floor selector.

Rain snow etc. If you live where it snows at all and your gonna drive it awd or you will get sideways FAST!

I got a denali envoy it's a wiring nightmare I though of starting completely over and making a stand alone and manual swapping and converting to rwd I dont feel any difference I dont think it even gos into 4x4 aand the oil pan is definitely a flaw

Hey Kova here something funny I have a 04 Envoy XL 5.3 4Wd and its great in the snow and can handle anything. I also own a TBSS Rwd so I can tell you that here in NYC its just ok in the rain but snow well forgetaboutit you better take it easy and gingerly Lol 😆

I bet it sucks in the snow! I spent most of my life up North and I hated it. Always had to have a fwd or awd vehicle handy. I tried snow tires on my Z once and it still sucked haha.

Snow tires on a AWD is a blast in the snow! It's the only time you can have fun without getting serious on traction 🤣 great video! I'm going rwd for mine and know ima miss that traction 🤣

No, there's much more involved in converting RWD to AWD.

So I have a selectable transfer case to make it permanently 2wd so I have to just remove front drive shift, front differential, change oil pan, and use stubs instead of my CV axels ?

Yes, if you want to take everything out. Dont have to change oil pan though. But then again, you could do the C6 pan since you do have to take it off anyway to get front diff out.
