I once use to visit Birmingham at least twice year in the summer and near Xmas to do some shopping and have some relaxing nights dining out. But last year my wife and I nearly had our lives cut short. Won't go into too much detail because this could have happened in alot of cities across the UK. But what I will say its not the place it once was,and we found ourselves constantly looking over our shoulders. The atmosphere has certainly taken a dive and the city centre is full of undesirables to say the least. My brother was standing outside a kebab shop last year when a gang of youths pulled up and threatened him at gunpoint for his phone naturally he handed it over. The next day as he was leaving the town centre he was caught in traffic lights between 2 gangs hacking each other with machetes ! It's a pity really because I have very good memories of Birmingham,but fortunately I'm lucky to be here to still have those wonderful memories!

Why is the National Sea Life Centre in a city which is further from the sea than almost any other in England. There are three railway companies and two coach operators who go to Birmingham from London. I would recommend Chiltern Railways from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street. Walk-up rail fares in the UK tend to be very expensive, but if you book about a week in advance and can commit to particular trains you can usually find advance singles on this route for about £7 each way. The journey takes about an hour and three quarters. The other two operators run from London Euston to Birmingham New Street Station, but one is expensive, and the other is slow. Coaches leave from Victoria Coach Station which is a few minutes walk from Victoria rail station. They are cheap, but take about three hours and arrive at Birmingham Coach Station in Digbeth, which is a bit further out from the city centre, probably about 15 minutes walk.
@peterwilliamallen10633 жыл бұрын
Because they build Sealife centres in most tourist area whether they are by the sea or not, the reason this one is called the " National Sealife Centre" and not just Birmingham Sealife Centre as its their headquarters and main Sealife centre.

Also, what about the jewellery quarter? On this list you focus too much on paid attractions.
@peterwilliamallen10633 жыл бұрын
It is World Famous thats why and is not a paid attraction. It is where there are loads of Jewellery shops and manufacturers of fine jewellery and you go and buy top class Jewellery.

It’s pronounced bir-min-um
@TomGB-814 жыл бұрын
Its always been Bir-ming-um, the Americans have always pronounced it as "haam" at the end. I'm 39 from Brum and Dudley, I've noticed a lot of the teens to early 20's pronouncing it how you spell it, I first noticed it a few years ago from people down south near London I just thought it was how they said it until I started hearing it recently locally in Brum. Similar thing with "route" I've noticed British people younger than 30ish pronounce it how the Americans and Australians pronounce it like "rauwt" instead of "root".
@peterwilliamallen10633 жыл бұрын
@@TomGB-81 Oh grow up, it is pronounced as it is spelt, Birming-ham, it is only pronounced Bir-ming-um by people in the Black Country ( Dudley), I am a Brummie of 66 years. The Yanks call it Birminghaam because they have a City called Birmingham in the deep South in the State of Alabama. So sorry it has not always been pronounced Bir-ming-um only as I said by Black Country People.

@@peterwilliamallen1063 I work with mostly Brummy lads on BCC highways, could've swore they also pronounce it none to little different than the Yamyams.
@peterwilliamallen10633 жыл бұрын
@@TomGB-81 I don't care who you work with, it is the way they talk and YAM YAMS come from the Black Country, (Dudley) and they talk in a deeper dialect to Brummies that sounds the same but is deeper, that is why when people on TV try to take off a Brummie Accent they actually take off a Black Country Accent, The name of my City is Birmingham, Birming-ham as it is spelt, so doesn't matter if they work for Birmingham City Council or Marks and Spencer or who they are, it is Birming-ham ( as in Ham Hock) Birmingham thats it, it is them not saying it correctly. Take it from me I am a Brummie.
