I have travelled all over the world and I never once found a place that was not influenced by humans. The idea of pure freedom and self reliance is a myth. Not even in the canadian wilderness let alone in sweden. There are always neighbours always a community always an economy. I love youtube for showing me videos that let me dream of this but I know it is not reality. Love your content and I am excited to watch you deal with this house!

It most often only have furniture included is when it is a summer house not longer used so the previous owners have no interest in the furniture's.

I’ve been thinking of going off grid here in Sweden. When I was a kid we had a summer house with nothing. But sitting on the outdoor toilet when it’s winter isn’t that fun. We stayed there during Christmas and it required a lot of wood to heat. Now it’s a year round home after mom retires in 2012 and it’s got all the modern stuff you need. I’ve never been to the north of Sweden. I have family in Dalarna which for me is north but it’s not technically northern Sweden. I wouldn’t say it’s customary to sell houses with furniture in Sweden. It’s mostly if it’s from someone that passed away. Although fridge and stove and such is left but sofas and beds and such are not typically left in the house. But it may be different for rural houses I’m more used to buying apartments or houses in cities and the seller takes the furniture away before you move in.

@@wertywerrtyson5529 the house is nowhere near ready for winter. Temperature here drops as low as -40 and the fireplace isn't doing a great job in heating up the place. Also the insulation is very bad. But who knows maybe next year. When I say off grid, it just means no grid connection. In the near future the house will have solar and running water for 8 months of the year. The other 4 months I still have to figure out haha.

You should be allowed to build "an outside kitchen" in Sweden without a building permit. In Finland (tighter permit system till 2025 changes it) we have all kinds of small saunas, sized 2x2 meters or even much more, with grey water systems (the unit costs around 500euros) and sometimes running water with a handpump or 12V solar system to wash and do dishes. As a finn Id recommend something like a sauna, perhaps with a tiny household room to even run a washing machine with a diesel generator or something further down the road. Id also recommend talking to some locals about what you'd prefer. Lake water should be fine enough to use in bathing, definitely get a stove pipe heater for a kiuas going the sauna way. For drinking water Id get a local contractor to build a well, unless you find a spring in your land. Composting toilet is a luxury knowing the prices of a sewage well installations. Swedish might know better suited solutions but that should get an idea. 😅

Hi, thanks for all the good advise. I really appreciate it. I like the outdoor kitchen idea ! Especially with a small living room / wash room . Building something small shouldn't be a problem. There is a cabin on the property close to the house that could be " rebuild " as such. We have a freshwater spring, but it is not close to the house. A well would be the next big thing I guess.

@@noorderling As long as the outdoor kitchen can't reasonably be considered its own separate building there's no permit needed. Since you already have a building that can be used as a separate kitchen you would obviously not need any permits for that either. When it comes to the freshwater spring it's illegal to alter it or appropriate it for your sole personal use in case it provides water for a stream or is located on public land (protected by The All Mans Right/The Right of Public Access). Taking water from it is completely legal as long as it's not rerouted or altered in a way where only you can use it. If it's a natural spring on your property you can do whatever you want with it.

@@WolfHeathen thanks for your reaction, really appreciate it. the spring/well is on our land. It would be fantastic if we could find a way to get the water from the spring in to a jerrycan. But the spring is quite big, deep-ish and because it overflows, all surroundings are muddy. I guess digging a channel to the small lake to get the excess water out of the way, would be the first step. And you're absolutely right, the bigger cabin would be a good spot for the outdoor kitchen / wash room. It is not in fantastic shape, but can be fixed.

"or good taste" 😂 Pittig om die hoek constructie zo te ontdekken. De Zweedse huizen hebben inderdaad veel te verduren door de elementen zeker onverwarmd gedurende de lange winter. Genoeg te doen

The interesting looking gauges look like maybe it could be some kind of old solar or wind powered battery charging system.

Not quite custom to sell a house with the furniture. Sounds more like the previous owner didn't want the hassle of clearing it out. It should be said though, that unlike England you are not allowed to remove fridge and stove as these are considered elemental to the property.

You're living out my dream it seems 😀 I'm looking forward to following you on your journey, and to follow in your foot steps in some years down the road! Do you mind me asking what you paid for this lovely property? Just in rough numbers, I don't want to pry, but it would be interesting to know what to expect of the final price. Best regards Jon (from Denmark)

Hi Jon, The price of a house in Sweden depends on so many factors that there is really no point in discussing it. Location is probably the biggest price determinant. The further south, the more expensive. Then the location of the house is important, and then the area of land and how much forest is on it, because that also has value. And the condition of the house. But the larger the land area, the less the house matters for the final price. There is also a lot of difference between a summer house and a house where you can live all year round. And then the season in which it is for sale. In winter, houses are cheaper. There are many websites where you can compare prices. Hopefully this information will help you. Take care, Daan

In Finland the price of just the summer cottage in a lot of lets say 3000 square meters might be between 30 to 100 thousand euros (and up but that should be somewhat livable already) depending on the condition, use its built for and the land utilities it might already have adding the value. With 30 grand you'd get a studio flat in a city or 2 room one in countryside village, bigger houses cost 150 to 250. It takes more to fully renovate and live comfortably obviously. Things like building permits you need to know about. Over all you'll need atleast 20 thousand euros above what you pay for and if you intend to live full time theres alot of stuff to figure out, first being the possible financing and a dayjob or part time stuff for your profession, Id hope it's already carpentry related😂. Technicly with some proper research you could refinance your house, mostly or fully paid, to move into a smaller place like this in total costs of around 100 thousand but it takes a lot of skills, time and effort. Places where houses cost less you'll need a vehicle to move around and norther/rural you go the harder it is to find a job.

Does the concept of hidden defects exist in the purchase of a home in Sweden?
@noorderling
@noorderling 6 ай бұрын
As far as I know, it does exist. But not when purchasing a house like this, in this price range. In other cases you will need an inspection before buying and this is required by the bank if you want to finance the house.
