Mate from one Australian to another, you’re a bloody legend. I’m just about to replace the safety brake cable on my boat trailer (it is my first boat and trailer) and this video showed me everything I needed to know!!

At that short caliper leaver actuator bar, I found it better to attach the cable with a small 'D' shackle rather than weave the cable through the two holes in the leaver actuator bar. This allowed a more direct pull and made the final adjustment easier.

Thanks for the suggestion. Anything to make adjustment easier. I will have a look at that option next time I service them.

Thank you. I'm glad they aren't available on eBay any more. The one featured in that video was sold as stainless steel but it was not. Rusted out same as the first one. Check out this video to see how I eventually solved the problem: kzbin.info7vUhduE18Ak

Tip: Spray Penetrol rust treatment on every part of your trailer eg. frame, springs, wheel hubs etc; repeat as required as time goes on. I have two forty year old boat trailers in original condition still looking like new, all OEM except wheel bearings and tyres. Cheers

Thanks, I will look into the Penetrol. I spray the interior of the tubes with heavy lanoline which works a treat but leaves the trailer looking very dirty if used on the outside. I wash the trailer down immediately after every dip. I was spraying the adjustment with WD40 but that obviously wasn't good enough.

@@weFishAU Penetrol is a Taubmans' product, first made by the Flood Company in the USA before WW2. Unlike Fisholine this stuff has a paint drying additive, it also can be blended to turps based paints. Cheers

@@weFishAU I find Penetrol in the spraycan is the easiest way to apply and never goes off. Also available in 500 Mls up to twenty litre cans but once opened will spoil in month if not used. Cheers
