Trailer gate repair

I got a 6.5 x 16 recently. I need to transport a 2,300# tractor. I added two more vertical bars near the tire paths and three more hinges. I tacked the hinges on a rod to keep them lined up and once attached, cut off the rod. I made the hinges from rod stock and drilled through. Moves easily and very sturdy now.

Grease the hinge zerks? One of my trailer hinges seized up and when I put the gate down the weld broke. There's a lot of leverage there. I was surprised. Now I have to get it fixed. No welder or cutting wheel. Must be nice to have the right tools to do the job. When I put the gate down now I have to support it underneath on that side.

Nice work. Have you had any luck repairing sprung trailer gates? When I lift my trailer gate the left side meets the trailer frame about 2" before the right side. I can manhandle it and get it latched but the gate always shifts to the right tot eh point you have to pry the gate left to close it. I REALLY DONT want to build a new one if I don't have to.

Yes , easiest way is to latch the good side and put some good clamps on it to keep it held firm . Then rig up a strap to a tree or firm object that’s not going to move and either push or pull the bent side with your vehicle slowly until you straighten it out

Any gate should have a minimum of 4 hinges . As much use and abuse.gates receive in a years time would require it . Saving money is important but safety is priceless .Hes lucky that gate didn't fly-off and hurt someone .

Totally agree . This gate was actually very thin tubing and did not weigh much . Adding the 3rd to it should make it bulletproof .
