Trailer Into REaction: Dancing Village - The Curse Begins (2024 ) | Official Trailer

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Thai horror movies; those that I have seen, at any rate.
They appear deeply invested in the culture(s) of the regions that they're produced in, but I'm not sure that they work too well on a broader basis.
'Dancing Village - The Curse' looks like there's a chance that it might break the mold, but the proof is in the viewing.

Maybe this is the only Indonesian horror film that has minimal or no jumpscare. This film is amospheric and tells a lot of stories, therefore, if you want to watch it, watch it in IMAX so you can feel the sensation. A very brave film that does not target its target market in Indonesia. Some were disappointed after watching this because they weren't scared. There are lots of horror films in Indonesia, but this one is very different. Even so, this film is still the best-selling film in Indonesia and cinemas here flock to watch it. For me personally, I like this film :)

3:02 Usually black coffee without sugar is served for this ritual. Ordinary people would feel bitter, and chosen people would feel the opposite. In Indonesia, usually if someone is in a trance they will be invited to chat and ask for coffee, more precisely coffee without sugar.

It's an interesting idea but taste is very much an individual thing. I understand what you're saying though that's not much to base being a 'chosen' person.

I have recommendations for Indonesian films that you can react to: 'Pemukiman Setan' and 'Qodrat' are horror films that Columbia Pictures reportedly wants to remake. 'Dreadout' is a film adaptation of an Indonesian game and the director is the same as the trailer in this video. The trailer sold well, but the movie... 'Siksa Kubur' is a film that is shown together with the trailer in this video. Movies from famous directors are here. All his films are very anti-menstream and won many awards.

This movie emphasizes 'Supernatural horror' rather than 'Fantasy horror' like most US horror films such as IT, Insidious, Truth or Dare where the concept of the story is more about scaring the audience with the concepts made by the author's imagination. Which in this movie more emphasizes mystical things that are inherent in Indonesian culture. In Indonesia itself, mystical things are still very easy to find. Like bitter coffee is one example in this movie, if the Jinn chooses us as a potential sacrifice then we can find out the signs from various media, which in this movie uses coffee media. Every culture has different media to see signs of someone being cursed. Like in Africa, China, Korea, Turkey etc they have their own media to see the signs of curses on someone made by the jinn.
